Job summary

Etched is seeking an SMT Process Engineer to establish our first SMT production line, participating from equipment selection to ramp. You will own programming, process development, tooling readiness, and training to ensure a robust manufacturing setup for future growth.

You will lead prototype to production builds, drive standards, and optimize FPY and OEE while collaborating with a small engineering team on-site in San Jose.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent practical experience.
• 10+ years of SMT manufacturing engineering experience.
• Experience supporting SMT line installation, commissioning, or factory startup.
• Experience with equipment acceptance testing, qualification, and production ramp-up.
• Hands-on experience programming and optimizing SMT equipment.
• Experience supporting PCBA manufacturing from prototype builds through high-volume production.

Responsibilities

• Launch our first SMT line: define specs, select equipment, coordinate installation with vendors and facilities.
• Qualify equipment for production: FAT/SAT tests and startup qualification plans.
• Own SMT programming and process development: write/optimize programs for printers, SPI, pick-and-place, AOI, AXI and depanelization.
• Establish tooling readiness: procure stencils, PCB tooling, pallets, fixtures for engineering builds.
• Support prototype to production: lead SMT support for EVT/DVT/PVT and production, troubleshoot issues.
• Develop manufacturing standards: create SOPs, work instructions, and process controls; ensure ESD/traceability.
• Train and certify operators: develop materials and train on setup, changes, and process controls.
• Provide technical leadership: mentor SMT Engineering Technician for maintenance and lab support.
• Ensure process and lab readiness: guide reflow verification, process characterization, sample prep for failure analysis.
• Drive continuous improvement: improve FPY, throughput, and OEE; optimize changeover times.
