Job summary

Emerald Technologies in Saline, MI is seeking an SMT Operator I for the second shift to set up and operate SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens, ensuring accurate component placement and finished PCB assemblies meet quality requirements.

The role involves loading feeders, verifying parts, making minor adjustments, performing basic inspection, recording production data, and maintaining a clean, safe work space in accordance with ESD and safety

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0–1 year of SMT operator experience.
  • Understanding of SMT equipment operation.
  • Ability to identify different electronic components.
  • Basic knowledge of the printing and soldering processes.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and procedures.
  • Familiarity with reading blueprints, diagrams, and processing documentation.
  • Ability to read and follow work instructions in English
  • Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn

Responsibilities

  • Load machine programs, feeders, and components onto SMT machines for specific jobs
  • Run the SMT equipment, including pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens, following instructions and process sheets
  • Verify components against parts lists and load them accurately into feeders
  • Monitor machine operation and make minor adjustments to component placement or other settings to ensure proper function and quality
  • Perform visual inspections of components and the final PCB assembly for defects like misplacement or solder issues
  • Conduct routine maintenance, such as cleaning machine nozzles, to ensure equipment precision and prevent downtime
  • Identify and report minor machine malfunctions or production issues to supervisors or maintenance staff
  • Record production data and maintain logs of machine settings and output
  • Maintaining equipment and keeping the workspace clean and organized for safety and productivity
  • Follow all ESD, safety, and company quality procedures

Emerald Technologies has an exciting opportunity for an SMT Operator on its Saline, MI team! A SMT Operator Level 1 primarily sets up and operates Surface Mount Technology (SMT) equipment like pick-and-place machines, screen printers, and reflow ovens. Key duties include loading components onto machine feeders, verifying parts and machine settings, performing basic operations and minor adjustments, performing manual component placement and inspection, and conducting preventative maintenance on the machinery. The role also involves basic quality checks of finished printed circuit board assemblies (PCBAs) and maintaining production records. This role is needed on second shift.

QUALIFICATIONS (Education & Experience):

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • 0–1 year of SMT operator experience
