Job summary

AMERICAN COMPUTER DEVELOPMENT INC in Frederick, MD is seeking an SMT Operator to handle setup, maintenance, and operation of automated SMT equipment, ensuring quality and productivity. You will work with Manufacturing Engineering, perform visual inspections, and handle changeovers on MyData machines to support NPI and production runs.

Qualifications include a High School diploma or GED, 3+ years SMT experience, and IPC-A-610/J-STD-001 training.

Responsibilities

  • Setup, maintenance, and operation of SMT assembly equipment including screen printing, solder paste inspection, pick and place, reflow, AOI.
  • Perform setup/changeover duties on MyData pick and place machines.
  • Operate and replenish components across multiple MyData machines.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering to improve processes and provide real time data.
  • Perform in-process visual inspections and first article checks.
  • Back up other SMT operators and AOI as needed.

POSITION SUMMARY

The SMT Operator will be responsible for setup, maintenance, and operation of assigned production equipment. This will be achieved using both automated equipment and manual placement methodologies, all while achieving goals for quality, efficiency, and productivity. This role will act as an integral team member to manufacturing engineering, quality and the extended SMT team on all new product introductions (NPI) and production runs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Setup, maintenance, and operation of automated Surface Mount Technology (SMT) assembly equipment which includes but is not limited to the following processes: screen printing, 3D solder paste inspection, pick, and place, reflow oven, x-ray, and automated optical inspection (AOI)
  • Perform setup and changeover duties as required of MyData pick and place machines
  • Operate, monitor, and replenish electronic components onto feeders across multiple MyData pick and place machines
  • Work collaboratively with the Manufacturing Engineering department to provide real time data to improve processes and determine the root cause of any issues
  • Perform in-process visual inspections and initiate first article processes for all electronic assemblies at the SMT
  • Act as back up to other SMT Operators, Material Handlers and AOI operators in running the automated equipment within the SMT group
QUALIFICATIONS SPECIFIC EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • High School diploma or GED required. Electronics technical school graduate is preferred.
  • 3+ years of hands on experience with SMT assembly techniques, equipment and processes
  • Previous experience with and training on IPC-A-610
  • Previous experience with and training on J-STD-001
REQUIRED/PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Must be familiar with Surface Mount Technology (SMT), electronic components and assembly processes used throughout the industry
  • Ability to use “Mantis” type microscopes to perform visual inspections of SMT assemblies as required
  • Ability to identify and understand the different pitch and feeder type configurations for tape and reel, cut tape, tube based and JEDEC tray components
  • Knowledge of electronics components commonly used in the industry. This will include full understanding of polarity, part marking information, package size and footprints on PWB’s.
  • Ability to interpret and apply IPC-A-610 acceptability standards to meet and exceed customer requirements and specifications
  • Ability to read, interpret and work from verbal instructions as well as work instructions
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Ability to operate a computer for the facilitation of technical documents on a secure network
  • Must be comfortable working in fast-paced environment

The employee may be required to wear protective clothing such as heel straps and a lab coat. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. All of the work will be performed indoors.
