Job summary

Tacoma Nursing and Rehabilitation is hiring a Smoking Monitor to help ensure resident safety during smoking breaks and provide additional support around the facility with 1:1 supervision and other duties. The role focuses on maintaining safe smoking protocols and resident well-being in a long-term care setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist residents to the smoking area as needed.
• Validate smoking materials are not left unattended in ashtrays.
• Ensure smoking apron is placed appropriately on residents at all times.
• Ensure safe smoking protocols are followed at all times.
• Visit residents one-on-one as needed.
• Recognize signs that may require nursing intervention and communicate with nursing staff.
• Assist in transporting residents to and from activity areas; report hazards immediately.

In this role, you’ll ensure resident safety during scheduled smoke breaks in our designated area and provide additional support around the facility with 1:1 supervision and other assigned duties.

Description of Duties:

• Assisting residents to the smoking area as needed
• Validating smoking materials are not left unattended in the ashtrays
• Ensuring smoking apron is placed appropriately on the residents and on at all times
• Ensuring safe smoking protocols are followed at all times
• Visit with residents on a 1:1 basis as needed
• Recognizes abnormal signs and symptoms that signify a physical change in condition of resident which might require nursing intervention.
• Selects residents and communicates with nursing personnel for purpose of assistance in transporting residents to and from general activity areas.
• Is aware of conditions that may interfere with the safety and well-being of residents involved in activity pursuits. Reports hazardous conditions immediately.

Minimum Requirements:

• Ability to stand on your feet for the majority of the shift.
• Must be able to tolerate the smell of cigarette smoke.
