The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine in Silver Spring, MD, seeks an SME IV – Research Psychologist (Evidence Synthesis) to serve as staff for all patient categories and to support PHCoE.

You will lead high-level psychological health research, apply evidence synthesis and meta-analytic techniques, and collaborate across DoD, VA, and other agencies to develop guidelines and resources.

Qualifications

  • Senior-level recommendations on psychological health topic areas (e.g., PTSD, depression, suicide).
  • Design and conduct research investigations applying evidence synthesis techniques using published research (systematic reviews).
  • Analyze and interpret research results.
  • Produce technical artifacts (reports, tools, briefings, manuscripts) aligned with PHCoE mission.
  • Ability to diagnose and treat psychological problems of all complexities.
  • Familiarity with the military medical system desirable.
  • US citizenship and ability to obtain/maintain a T3/Secret clearance.

Responsibilities

Job Description

Join the HJF Team! HJF is seeking a SME IV – Research Psychologist (Evidence Synthesis) to function as staff member for all categories of patients. Performs duties as a practitioner and consultant in psychiatry with emphasis on problems of all levels of complexity. This position will provide technical and operational support to accomplish the mission of the Psychological Health Center of Excellence (PHCoE). Located in Silver Spring, MD, the PHCoE is a Department of Defense (DoD) initiative focused on improving mental health service delivery and promoting psychological health among service members. It collaborates across the DoD, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other agencies to develop clinical practice guidelines for psychological health conditions, substance use disorders, and suicide risk. PHCoE also produces evidence-based resources, clinical support tools, and expert-reviewed briefs to enhance patient care, operational readiness, and human performance in military settings.

Responsibilities
  • Examines, diagnoses, treats, and follows outpatients with psychological problems of all complexities.
  • Provides continuing follow-up for chronic outpatients with acute disorders and complications of these disorders.
  • Provides staff expertise in psychology that is pertinent in a wide variety of circumstances, to include management of patients with psychological disorders.
  • Examines and conducts thorough studies of presenting patients; evaluates laboratory and clinical findings, prescribing appropriate treatment or referring patient to appropriate specialty clinics.
  • Collaborates with physicians in other medical specialties on cases involving complicated and multi-faceted problems.
  • Follows through on all cases to insure effective comprehensive psychological services required.
  • Provides psychological support to special areas.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Direct Supervisor: Direct authority to make decisions on the following: employee hiring, disciplinary action, starting salaries and merit increases; conduct employee performance evaluations and directs work activities.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
  • Doctoral degree required. Doctorate (PhD or PsyD) in Clinical Psychology.
  • At least 13 years of full-time post-doctoral work experience directly related to the planning and execution of research in the field of psychological health.
  • At least 5 years of full-time post-doctoral experience supporting psychological health research studies applying evidence synthesis and meta-analytic techniques to already-published research.
Required Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
  • Capability to provide senior-level expert recommendations on psychological health topic areas (e.g., post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), Depression, Suicide).
  • Capability to design and conduct research investigations applying evidence synthesis techniques using existing published research (e.g., systematic reviews).
  • Capability to analyze and interpret research results.
  • Capability to produce technical artifacts (e.g., reports, tools, briefings, presentations, and manuscripts) consistent with the KSAs described here and with the broader PHCoE mission set.
  • Ability to diagnose and treat psychological problems of all complexities.
  • Familiarity with military medical system desirable.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance, including background check and drug screening.
Physical Capabilities
  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.
Work Environment
  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.
Compensation
  • The annual salary pay range for this position is $127,000-$170,000. Actual salary/hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
