Qualifications

  • Doctorate (PhD) in Epidemiology, Psychology, or a related field with focus on survey methodology.
  • At least 8 years of full-time post-doctoral work providing methodological inputs to complex multi-site surveys.
  • At least 3 years leading large survey projects.
  • Scientific publication record reflecting federal or academic deliverables.

HJF is seeking an SME III - Population Survey Methodologist to provide epidemiological, computer programming, biostatistical and laboratory procedure support for a specified project.

This position will provide technical and operational support to accomplish the mission of the Psychological Health Center of Excellence (PHCoE). Located in Silver Spring, MD, the PHCoE is a Department of Defense (DoD) initiative focused on improving mental health service delivery and promoting psychological health among service members. It collaborates across the DoD, the Department of Veterans Affairs, and other agencies to develop clinical practice guidelines for psychological health conditions, substance use disorders, and suicide risk. PHCoE also produces evidence-based resources, clinical support tools, and expert-reviewed briefs to enhance patient care, operational readiness, and human performance in military settings

The Henry M. Jackson Foundation for the Advancement of Military Medicine (HJF) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing military medicine.   • Initiates, designs, implements, and evaluates epidemiological studies supporting the research project.
  • Identifies sociodemographic and geographic correlation of disease progression as it relates to the research project and determines their relationships to the biology of the virus and pathogenesis of the disease.
  • Designs and implements retrospective studies as follow-up if needed.
  • Provides consultation regarding study design and necessary statistical analysis to include multivariate methods. This includes advising on designing studies, determining safety and effectiveness of new treatments, analyzing statistics and epidemiological interpretations of the research.
  • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for role.

Education and Experience

  • Doctorate (PhD) in Epidemiology, Psychology, or a related field with a focus on survey methodology.
  • At least 8 years of full-time post-doctoral work experience providing methodological inputs to complex multi-site surveys.
  • At least 3 years of full-time post-doctoral experience leading large survey projects.
  • Scientific publication record reflecting academic or federal research deliverables.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Capability to provide senior-level subject matter expertise on survey methodology and measurement.
  • Capability to advise on the design, implementation, and dissemination of large population-level surveys in the DoD.
  • Capability to apply demonstrated expertise in survey design, sampling methods, survey statistics, and interpretation of survey findings to support the execution of the Health-Related Behaviors Survey.
  • Produce technical artifacts (e.g., reports, tools, briefings, presentations, and manuscripts) consistent with the KSAs described here and with the broader PHCoE mission set.
  • Knowledge and ability to use and teach complex epidemiologic research methods for assessing the risk of disease in humans due to potential risk factors.
  • Advanced knowledge in computer programming with experience with advanced multivariate statistical methods.
  • Knowledge of statistical and mathematical software including SAS, MINITAB, and BMDP.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • US Citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a T3/Secret Clearance, including background check and drug screening.

Physical Capabilities

  • Lifting: Requires lifting materials up to 10 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or sit at a computer for prolonged periods.

Work Environment

  • This position will take place primarily in an office setting.

Compensation

  • The annual salary pay range for this position is $127,000-$170,000. Actual salary/hourly pay will be determined based on experience, education, etc.
