Job summary

Tessera is seeking a Small Engine Mechanic to perform maintenance and repairs on military equipment at Junction City, Kansas (Fort Riley). The role requires working full-time, day shift, with a compensation of $26.44 per hour, non-exempt status, and eligibility for a comprehensive benefits package.

Responsibilities include servicing wheeled & track vehicles, power generation, and related equipment, following technical manuals, and training others on maintenance practices.

Qualifications

  • ASE certification preferred.
  • Minimum of three (3) years light, medium and heavy truck experience.
  • Ability to respond to inquiries or complaints from customers, tell time and count work hours, and to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain maintenance of military equipment including wheeled vehicles, track vehicles, engineer equipment, power generation and material handling equipment.
  • Perform minor repairs and services as outlined in established technical manuals.
  • Service and fuel transportation equipment, air compressors, generators, lawn maintenance equipment and other motor vehicles and equipment as assigned.
  • Inspect and repair brakes, suspension, wheels, hubs and steering systems.
  • Maintain records, wash/clean and lubricate vehicles and equipment, check fluid levels and adjust during fueling operations, repair tires and perform minor body repairs and painting as required.
  • Read, understand and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring and hydraulic schematics to diagnose and repair during scheduled services.
  • Determine needed repair parts and generate parts requests.
  • Train employees on proper operation, daily preventative maintenance activities and safety checks of grounds maintenance equipment and snow removal equipment.

Typical Duties

Physical Requirements
  • Employees must have the ability to perform the following physical demands for extended periods of time with or without assistance.
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds.
  • May be required to reach, kneel, walk, stand, and use repetitive motion for several hours at a time based on position duties.
  • Work may require repetitive motion, reaching, lifting, kneeling and walking.
  • Standing or sitting for several hours at a time, climbing in and out of a vehicle, and up and down stairs may also be required.
  • Must have the perseverance to work effectively under pressure for extended periods of time.
Requirements
  • A valid state driver’s license is required with the ability to obtain and maintain coverage by Tessera’s insurance.
