EMC is seeking a Small Business Underwriter to grow a profitable portfolio and make thoughtful risk decisions across new and renewal business. This role offers work-from-home flexibility across the U.S. and collaboration with sales and agency partners.

You will analyze coverage forms, price risks, and ensure service levels while supporting market objectives; a Bachelor's degree and underwriting experience are required, with CPCU/CIC/AU preferred.

As a Small Business Underwriter, you'll make a meaningful impact by using your expertise to make thoughtful risk decisions, grow a profitable portfolio, and build trusted relationships with agency partners. You'll work closely with sales and business teams to uncover new opportunities, provide exceptional service, and help both our agency partners and EMC succeed.

Essential Functions

• Manage and grow a profitable portfolio of new and renewal small business within assigned authority and territory.
• Select and price risks in alignment with EMC's Small Business Underwriting Strategy.
• Evaluate coverage forms, classifications, rating plans, and underwriting guidelines to make sound, data-driven decisions.
• Prioritize workload to balance underwriting quality, efficiency, and responsiveness.
• Meet service-level commitments while supporting agency and business needs.
• Build trusted relationships with agency partners, particularly high-potential small business agencies.
• Partner with sales and other business units to ensure consistent communication and service.
• Engage agencies to generate new business, provide training support, and advance market objectives.
• Participate in agency planning and reviews, monitor progress, and provide actionable feedback toward annual goals.
• Stay current on underwriting best practices, industry trends, coverage forms, rating plans, and guidelines through ongoing professional development.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in insurance or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience
• One year of experience in commercial lines underwriting or related experience
• Insurance designations, such as CPCU, CIC, or AU preferred

• Occasional travel; a valid driver's license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if driving

The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following: $60,813 - $84,038 or $67,200 - $92,395 A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
