Job summary

EMC Insurance in North Carolina is seeking an experienced Commercial Underwriter to evaluate risk, price policies, and manage a growing book of business. You will collaborate with agents, marketers, and fellow underwriters to deliver competitive solutions and excellent client service.

The role requires a bachelor's degree, 3 years of underwriting experience, and professional designations such as CPCU preferred. Occasional travel may be required.

Qualifications

Essential Functions

• Maintains and grows a profitable book of business for assigned territory

Education & Experience

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in insurance or business administration, or equivalent relevant experience
• Three years of experience in commercial lines underwriting or related experience
• Insurance designations, such as CPCU preferred

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Good knowledge of underwriting and risk analysis
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound decisions
• Strong customer service skills
• Ability to work effectively with others, as well as independently
• Ability to maintain high standards of professional competence
• Strong computer skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office and social media
• Ability to work on multiple projects while meeting deadlines
• Strong written and verbal communication skills

Occasional travel; a valid driver’s license with an acceptable motor vehicle report per company standards required if traveling.

The hiring salary range for this position will vary based on geographic location, falling within either of the following: $78,726 - $108,771 or $87,008 - $119,646. A hiring range represents a subset of the full salary range. The actual salary will depend on several factors, including relevant education, skills, and experience of an applicant, geographic location, and business needs.
