The University of Wisconsin–Madison’s UW Veterinary Care is seeking a Veterinary Technician II to support small animal specialty services, helping patients and owners while expanding veterinary nursing skills.

This floating nurse role requires initiative and the ability to lift 50 pounds; the schedule varies from 24 to 40 hours per week with potential on‑call duties and opportunities for continuing education and specialty certification.

Qualifications

• Requires ability to lift 50 lbs independently.
• Certified Veterinary Technician credential required.
• 3+ years in a veterinary clinic handling small animals.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills.

Responsibilities

• Serves as contact for animal owners and stakeholders.
• Documents and disseminates results to the appropriate entities.
• Completes laboratory tests and collects specimens per orders.
• Monitors animal health and provides nursing care; notifies veterinarian.
• Tracks supply inventory and places replenishment orders.
• Maintains records of procedures and billing.
• Assists in trainings and supervises student employees.
• Prepares complex animal care procedures and medication administration.
