Job summary

University of Wisconsin–Madison is seeking a Veterinary Technician II for a floating role across small animal services. You will support patients and their owners, expand your nursing skills, and work across multiple specialty areas with independent initiative.

This role requires lifting up to 50 pounds and hands-on technical duties. Flexible schedule; 60–100% FTE (24–40 hours/week) with a typical shift pattern and potential on-call coverage.

Qualifications

• Must lift 50 lbs independently and perform physically demanding tasks.
• Certified Veterinary Technician with required credentials.
• At least 3 years of veterinary clinic experience handling small animals.
• Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills are essential.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a point of contact for animal owners and stakeholders.
• Document and disseminate results to the appropriate entities.
• Complete laboratory tests and collect specimens per orders and care plans.
• Monitor animal health status and provide nursing care; notify veterinarian of changes.
• Track supply inventory levels and place replenishment orders.
• Develop recordkeeping processes and maintain medical/billing records.
• Assist in training animal care staff and supervise students as needed.
• Prepare and document complex technical animal care procedures per care plans.
