Job description

General Purpose:

Under general supervision, provides comprehensive speech therapy and language development services to a specified population of residents. Screens and evaluates residents; develops and implements therapeutic speech and language development program and services.

Essential Job Functions
  • Examines, tests, diagnoses, and administers treatments for residents with speech and language disorders, hearing disorders, and oral motor disorders.
  • Performs evaluations with particular attention to receptive and expressive language skills, speech fluency, vocal and oral motor competence, articulation, and auditory skills.
  • Maintains communication with the resident and others concerned regarding progress, problems, home programs, and other issues related to the therapeutic process.
  • Facilitates behavior management in residents and families as appropriate to the needs of the resident.
  • Maintains records of work performed.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelors of Science Degree in Speech Therapy
  • Current license in state of practice.
  • Certification, if applicable, and demonstrated competency in identified areas of specialization.
  • Organized and detailed in work performance.
  • Good communication skills with excellent self-discipline and patience.
  • Genuine caring for and interest in elderly and disabled people in a nursing facility.
