Position Summary

The Slot Verification Specialist is responsible for providing an independent verification of slot machine installations, relocations, conversions, configuration changes, and other applicable gaming equipment activity prior to equipment being placed into or returned to active guest play.

Core Duties and Responsibilities

The Slot Verification Specialist is responsible for the following duties:

  • Independently verify newly installed, relocated, converted, or reconfigured slot machines prior to activation or return to guest play.
  • Verify machine information against approved documentation, gaming system records, manufacturer information, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Confirm applicable machine information and configuration, including:
    • Asset number
    • Manufacturer and model
    • Serial number
    • Game title
    • Denomination(s)
    • Paytable
    • Theoretical hold percentage
    • Game software and version
    • PAR sheet information
    • Progressive configuration
    • Player tracking configuration
    • Accounting system information
    • Communication and system connectivity
    • Required seals and security controls
    • Machine location
  • Verify required approvals and supporting documentation prior to activation.
  • Complete and sign required verification documentation.
  • Maintain an accurate record of machines verified and released for activation.
  • Reverify equipment following the correction of identified discrepancies.
Separation of Duties & Independent Verification
  • Maintain organizational independence from Slot Operations and employees responsible for installing, programming, configuring, relocating, or converting gaming equipment.
  • Independently verify the accuracy of work performed by Slot Operations rather than performing the initial work being verified.
  • Refrain from verifying any configuration or activity personally performed when independent verification is required.
  • Identify, document, and report discrepancies discovered during the verification process.
  • Withhold verification or release of gaming equipment when required documentation, approvals, configuration, or regulatory requirements have not been satisfied.
  • Return identified discrepancies to authorized Slot Operations personnel for correction.
  • Perform independent reverification after corrections are completed.
  • Escalate unresolved or recurring discrepancies to the Director of Finance and other appropriate management personnel.
SLOT VARIANCE REPORTING
  • Prepare and complete the monthly Slot Variance Report in accordance with established internal controls and procedures.
  • Review applicable slot machine, accounting, meter, system, asset, and operational information necessary to identify discrepancies or unexplained variances.
  • Research identified variances and obtain supporting documentation as necessary.
  • Document findings, explanations, corrective actions, and outstanding items.
  • Identify recurring discrepancies, unusual activity, or trends requiring additional review.
  • Provide the completed monthly Slot Variance Report to the Director of Finance.
  • Submit the completed Slot Variance Report and supporting information to Internal Compliance each month for independent review.
  • Maintain supporting documentation in accordance with established record-retention requirements.
  • Cooperate with Internal Compliance regarding questions, follow-up, testing, or additional documentation related to reported variances.
GAME CONVERSIONS & CONFIGURATION CHANGES
  • Independently verify approved game conversions before converted machines are returned to active guest play.
  • Confirm game software, game theme, denomination, paytable, theoretical hold, progressive information, and other applicable configurations against approved documentation.
  • Verify that required approvals and documentation are present and complete.
  • Confirm that applicable gaming, accounting, asset, and player tracking systems accurately reflect approved changes.
  • Maintain documentation supporting conversions and configuration changes.
  • Report discrepancies to Slot Operations for correction and perform reverification before activation.
MACHINE MOVES & FLOOR CHANGES
  • Independently verify slot machine relocations and floor changes as required by established internal controls.
  • Confirm machine identification and location information following a move.
  • Verify applicable accounting, player tracking, progressive, and communication configurations following relocation.
  • Ensure applicable asset and gaming system records accurately reflect the machine's new location.
  • Maintain required documentation supporting machine moves and floor changes.
DOCUMENTATION & RECORDKEEPING
  • Maintain complete, accurate, and organized verification records.
  • Ensure required verification forms contain appropriate signatures, dates, machine information, approvals, and supporting documentation.
  • Maintain documentation in accordance with established record-retention requirements.
  • Assist with reconciliation of physical gaming assets to applicable asset, accounting, and gaming system records.
  • Maintain an auditable record of verification activities.
  • Provide records and documentation to authorized management, Internal Compliance, external auditors, and Tribal Gaming Commission personnel upon request.
COMPLIANCE & REGULATORY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform all duties in accordance with applicable Tribal Gaming Ordinances, Tribal Gaming Commission requirements, Minimum Internal Control Standards, approved internal controls, and property policies and procedures.
  • Maintain familiarity with applicable requirements governing gaming equipment verification.
  • Cooperate fully with Internal Compliance, external auditors, and Tribal Gaming Commission personnel during audits, inspections, and reviews.
  • Immediately report suspected control failures, unexplained discrepancies, or potential regulatory concerns through established reporting channels.
  • Assist with corrective-action follow-up when audit or regulatory findings involve slot verification.
  • Maintain the confidentiality and security of gaming system information, machine configurations, internal controls, and proprietary information.
AUTHORITY & ACCOUNTABILITY

The Slot Verification Specialist has the authority to withhold verification and prevent the release of gaming equipment for active play when required verification criteria have not been satisfied.

The Slot Verification Specialist does not independently alter gaming configurations solely for the purpose of correcting a discrepancy identified during verification. Discrepancies requiring operational correction are returned to authorized Slot Operations personnel. Once corrected, the Slot Verification Specialist performs an independent reverification.

The Slot Verification Specialist reports identified control concerns or recurring discrepancies to the Director of Finance and, when appropriate, Internal Compliance.

The Slot Verification Specialist works closely with:

The position must maintain professional working relationships while preserving the independence necessary to objectively verify gaming activity.

Qualifications – Education and Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous casino gaming, slot operations, gaming compliance, auditing, accounting, technical, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience with slot machines and casino gaming systems strongly preferred.
  • Ability to understand technical gaming documentation, PAR sheets, configuration information, and system records.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to identify discrepancies.
  • Strong analytical, reconciliation, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to accurately complete and maintain detailed records and reports.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with employees, management, auditors, vendors, and regulatory personnel.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding gaming systems, configurations, financial information, internal controls, and proprietary information.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain all required gaming licenses.

The work environment is fast-paced and requires overall good mental and physical health.
