Steel Technologies LLC in Decatur, AL is seeking a Slitting Operator to set up and inspect arbor and overarm configurations, reconcile coil identity with production, and thread coils through the slitter head according to instructions.

You will monitor gauge width, hardness, camber and surface condition, calibrate the gauge system, and adjust setups to correct defects. The position offers a comprehensive benefits package and opportunities for education assistance.

Qualifications

• Set up slitting to meet customer specs and production requirements.
• Use measurement tools for quality checks.
• Follow safety rules and requirements.
• Occasionally lift up to 50 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Make and inspect arbor and overarm set-ups to ensure compliance with production instructions
• Reconcile coil identity to production and load coil
• Thread coil through slitter head, cropping non-complying material
• Thread mults into recoiler
• Maintain production and quality standards by measuring and verifying before during and after processing
• Check and record gauge width, hardness, camber, burr and surface condition
• Set gauge monitoring system (if applicable) and ensure gauge calibration
• Adjust machine setup to correct defects as needed throughout slitting (if applicable)
• Communicate non-compliance production to supervisor and/or shift lead
• Band/secure and identify slit mults
• Assist maintenance to troubleshoot malfunctions or complete preventative maintenance as necessary
• Remove scrap from machine and empty hopper as needed
• Clean slitter and surrounding area
