Job summary

Atlas Tube at Zekelman Industries is seeking a Slitter Operator Exit for the 3rd shift to set up and operate high-speed equipment with robotic elements, producing steel to spec. The role emphasizes attention to detail, safety, and timely production in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities include advanced setup, quality inspection, data logging, and collaboration with maintenance and QA. Prior manufacturing experience and strong math skills are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Minimum high school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must read and write English and maintain production records.
  • Experience in manufacturing or related industry preferred.
  • Ability to perform basic math and use measurement tools.

Responsibilities

  • Observe safety and LOTO rules to operate equipment efficiently.
  • Advanced setup and calibration of equipment.
  • Inspect materials for quality before, during, and after runs.
  • Record and report deficiencies to supervisor/quality dept.
  • Maintain tooling and tools needed for job completion.
  • Diagnose equipment and quality issues; minimize scrap and delays.
  • Perform housekeeping to keep areas clean and safe.
  • Complete production, changeover, and scrap reports.
  • Assist maintenance with repairs and PM.
  • Participate in continuous improvement programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

About the Role

Reporting to the Plant Manager, the Slitter Operator Exit will be responsible for setting up and operating high-speed equipment with robotic elements to form or cut steel to specified dimensions and specifications. This role is perfect for someone who is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Shift: 3rd Shift (M-T 5:30pm - 5:30am & Friday - 5:30pm - 4:00am)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Observe all safety and LOTO rules to operate equipment efficiently and effectively.

  • Advanced set up and calibration of all equipment.

  • Inspect materials for quality issues before, during, and after running material

  • Record and report any deficiencies in quality to the supervisor/quality department.

  • Maintain equipment tooling and tools necessary for job completion.

  • Diagnose equipment and quality problems while keeping scrap and delays to a minimum

  • Perform housekeeping tasks to keep work areas clean and safe

  • Complete reports related to production, changeovers, and scrap material

  • Assist maintenance in repairs and PM of equipment.

  • Participation in continuous improvement programs.

  • Perform all other duties as assigned by management jobs as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • Ability to read and write English. Ability to maintain production records and logs.

  • Manufacturing or related industrial experience preferred.

  • Ability to perform math, addition, subtraction, decimals, and fractions.

  • Experience with measuring devices such as tape measure, micrometers, and calipers

  • Ability to operate forklift, crane and any other equipment necessary for completion of job

  • Detail oriented with the ability to work independently.

  • Regular, full-time, predictable onsite attendance per the posted schedule is an essential function of this role

  • Lead and promote health and safety work practices as required by regulatory agencies and company policy

PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • Must be able to move objects and use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue. Constant movement and use of limbs; this position requires good manual dexterity, coordination and stamina.

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position for several hours

  • Ability to lift, climb, bend, stoop, push and pull.

  • Must be able to lift 60lbs.

  • Must be able to stand for 10-12 hours

  • Ability to perform work in a plant/manufacturing environment

  • Other physical requirements as needed for job

This position's compensation range is $24+ Hourly plus Production Incentive
