Job summary

Barfield Inc. in Louisville, KY, seeks a Slide & Oxygen Technician to support Operations. You will learn FAA-approved procedures to pretest, disassemble, repair/overhaul, assemble and test aircraft components such as slides and oxygen systems.

Reports to Shop Lead Technician and may train others. Qualifications include a High School diploma or equivalent, basic math, and ability to read CMMs and instructions.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Technical college or military training is a plus.
  • Understand, read, and write English, and basic math.
  • Must follow instructions using CMMs, manuals, and FAA docs.
  • Ability to use basic test equipment (pressure gauges, micrometers, calipers, etc.).
  • Adaptive and willing to learn new concepts and safety procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Pretest, disassemble, repair/overhaul, assemble, and final test aircraft components (Slides, Rafts, Oxygen Cylinders/tanks, Oxygen Masks).
  • Report to Shop Lead Technician or Shop Manager; some supervision expected.
  • Trainable in position; follow company policies and procedures.
  • Maintain clean work area and lift heavy objects safely.
  • Support other duties as assigned.

Founded in 1945, Barfield has six facilities located near airports in Miami (MIA), Phoenix (PHX), Louisville (SDF), Atlanta (ATL), and Doral (MIA), to satisfy the needs of customers operating commercial or regional aircraft in North, Central, and South America.

Barfield is part of the Air France Industries KLM Engineering & Maintenance (AFI KLM E&M) network, a major MRO provider. With a workforce of 14,000, AFI KLM E&M offers technical support for airlines, ranging from airframe maintenance to engine overhaul and repair, and supply of components.

Job Description

Department: Operations/Production

Employee Status: Non-Exempt

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Using FAA-approved data, can learn to pretest, disassemble, repair/overhaul, assemble, and final test aircraft components, including but not limited to Slides, Rafts, Oxygen Cylinders/tanks, Oxygen Masks, and similar components.
  • Reports to the Shop Lead Technician or Shop Manager.
  • Considered trainable in his or her position.
  • Some supervision is expected.
  • Must be willing to learn new skills to advance within the company.
  • Must be willing to follow company policies and procedures.
  • Ability to routinely lift and manipulate heavy objects.
  • Keep a clean work area.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements and Skills
  • High School diploma or its equivalent.
  • Technical college or Military training is a plus.
  • Understand, read, and write English, and have knowledge of basic math.
  • Must be able to follow written instructions using schematic diagrams, Component Maintenance Manuals (CMMs), Airline EO’s, and other FAA-approved technical documents.
  • Ability to learn the use of basic test equipment, including but not limited to Pressure Gauges, Hydrostatic Testers, Micrometers, Dial Indicators, Torque Wrenches, Calipers, and other precision measuring equipment.
  • Must be adaptive and willing to engage new concepts, processes, and technical capabilities.
  • Dexterity with hand tools.
  • Must be mindful and proactive regarding safety procedures.
  • Must be able to identify hazards and follow the shop processes to ensure personal safety and the safety of others
