Work Hours:
The training schedule for the first 90 days is:
Fridays 11 am-11:30 pm
Saturdays 6:30 pm-7 am
Sundays 6:30 pm-7 am
During this first 90 days you would work closely with a preceptor who will give you the hands on technical skills to complete a patient hook-up and basics of understanding the raw data that is collected during a sleep study.
After 90 days you would select what 3 nights you would like to work as a permanent schedule. You can choose to work all 3 shifts back-to-back (like Sunday/Monday/Tuesday) or split it up (like Sunday/ Wednesday/Thursday). At this point you should be able to do 2 patient hookups and run 2 sleep studies fairly independently. As long as you are a trainee, you will always be working with an RPSGT to help you make any clinical decisions. It is expected that you would sit for and pass the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists exam within 24 months (2 years) of hire, although you would be eligible to sit for the exam in a little under one year.
Duke shift differentials do apply to the trainee role and are applied to the entire shift. The shift premiums that would apply to your role are:
