Job summary

HCA Houston Healthcare Tomball is seeking a Polysomnographer PRN to perform nocturnal and daytime sleep studies, with independent work in a busy sleep lab. The role includes equipment setup, data collection, and patient interaction in accordance with lab standards.

PRN status means flexible hours and on-call coverage may be required. The ideal candidate holds an associated degree or vocational training, BLS within 30 days, and 1 year of experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform nocturnal monitoring of physiologic/neurologic parameters.
• Monitor and document sleep study data per standards.
• Inspect and troubleshoot sleep lab equipment.
• Communicate findings and instructions clearly to team and patients.
• Respond to emergencies and manage various patient situations.

Job Summary and Qualifications

Performs intensive nocturnal and, if indicated, diurnal monitoring of physiologic and neurological parameters in patients of varying ages and medical conditions who are referred for sleep dysfunctions. Testing is performed in accordance with the standards of practice as defined by Tomball Regional Medical Center and the Association of Sleep Disorders Centers. The polysomnographic technologist works independently, utilizing a variety of sophisticated instruments and demonstrates good judgment and decision making in the treatment and handling of the individual patient.

• Inspect machinery, office equipment, and/or medical equipment
• Trouble-shoot medical equipment
• Solve problems requiring interpretation
• Utilize reasoning and problem-solving skills
• Noise: sufficient noise to cause distraction or possible hearing loss
• May be exposed to infections and contagious diseases
• Exposed to hazards from electrical/mechanical/power equipment
• Exposed to housekeeping/cleaning agents/chemicals
• Occasional exposure to unpleasant patient or unit environment
• Contact with patients under wide variety of circumstances
• May be exposed to/occasionally exposed to patient elements
• Subject to varying and unpredictable situations
• Handles emergency or crisis situations
• Subject to many interruptions
• Occasionally subjected to irregular hours
• Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries
• Handles absentee replacement on short notice

What qualifications you will need:

• Basic Cardiac Life Support must be obtained within 30 days of employment start date
• Associate Degree, or Vocational School Graduate
• 1 Year of Experience Is Preferred
