Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Special Education.
• ND teaching license or ability to obtain prior to start date.
• Strong interest in serving students with complex needs.
• Understanding of child development stages and developmentally appropriate expectations.
• Strong communication skills both verbal and nonverbal.
• Ability to establish and maintain constructive relationships.
• Ability to demonstrate flexibility and creativity.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Knowledge of current programming trends in special education.

Responsibilities

• Establishes an instructional/learning environment for students.
• Provide direct instruction to students in areas determined in the IEP: academics, communication, fine and gross motor, mobility, social/recreation/leisure, community, vocational, and independent living skills.
• Administers evaluative tools to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
• Administers first aid and assistance to medically fragile children.
• Assesses student progress towards objectives and goals.
• Develop Behavior Support Plans or Behavior Intervention Plans as needed.
• Establishes and maintains a behavioral management system for students.
• Monitors students' behavior and activities in various environments.
• Prepares written materials documenting progress and meeting requirements.
• Supervises paraeducators to monitor performance.
• Collaborates with parents and staff to improve student outcomes.
• Differentiates instruction to address individualized learning needs.
• Informs parents of student progress and expectations in the home environment.
• Maintains documents and records for mandated requirements.
• Participates in meetings to convey and gather information.
• Ensures a safe and effective educational atmosphere and enforces school policy.
