Job summary

City of Columbus is seeking a skilled welder to perform heating, cutting, welding, and fabrication of metal and fabric parts under general supervision. Responsibilities include reading plans, estimating materials, operating plasma cutter and various torches, and assisting in maintenance of motors and conveyors.

Four years of welding experience is required; a welding program certificate can substitute for up to two years. Some positions may require a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience as a welder.
• A certificate of completion from a formal welding program may substitute for up to two years of welder experience.
• Some positions may require possession of a valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Welds, cuts, grinds, shapes, or alters metal for fabrication or repair.
• Fuses metal parts using welding methods (MIG, TIG, oxyacetylene, etc.).
• Reads and interprets plans and sketches; estimates materials and equipment.
• Assists in dismantling, repairing, and assembling motors, conveyors, and related equipment.
• Operates software to complete work orders and track inventory.
• May supervise helpers.
