Job summary

Sarasota County is seeking a Skilled Trades Worker I to help keep parks and facilities safe, clean, and welcoming for the community. You will perform groundskeeping, mowing, landscaping, and basic facility maintenance, using a range of hand and power tools.

The role requires a high school diploma plus 2+ years of related experience, a valid Florida driver’s license, and a commitment to safety and customer service. Starting pay is $21.51/hour with potential increases based on experience.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of related experience in landscaping, facility, or grounds maintenance.
  • Valid Florida driver’s license.
  • Bonuses: Pesticide Applicator License and/or pool operations experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain campground and park grounds through mowing, trimming, mulching, planting, weeding, tree care, pressure washing, and litter removal.
  • Safely operate and perform basic maintenance on commercial equipment (e.g. zero-turn mowers, string trimmers, edgers, pole saws, backpack blowers, chainsaws).
  • Apply and handle herbicides, fertilizers, pesticides, and landscape chemicals safely.
  • Perform minor facility maintenance including carpentry, plumbing, painting, irrigation, and pool upkeep.
  • Keep restrooms, laundry facilities, game rooms, pool areas, and storage areas clean and safe.
  • Inspect facilities, identify maintenance needs, submit work orders, and assist with other locations as needed.
