Sarasota County is hiring for a Lift Station Technician or Apprentice with a two-year paid apprenticeship that combines hands-on training and classroom instruction. The program leads to certified Lift Station Technician status.

The role involves maintaining electrical and mechanical equipment, reading schematics, and documenting work. A CDL with air-brake endorsement is required within six months; pre-employment screening applies.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to obtain Class A CDL with air brake endorsement within six months; paid by Sarasota County.
  • Must commit to a two-year extensive training program to become Lift Station Technician.
  • Valid Florida Driver's License at time of hire.
  • Pre-employment substance screening required.

Responsibilities

  • Install, replace, repair, and modify mechanical and electrical equipment at Public Utilities facilities (pumps, valves, regulators, actuators, control panels).
  • Document and maintain work orders, parts inventory, and safety records.
  • Operate tools and equipment, including electric meters, and read wiring diagrams and schematics.
  • Assist with crane trucks to remove and install pumps in lift stations.
