Job summary

Some (So Others Might Eat) seeks a Building Trades Instructor Contractor to provide temporary, hands-on instruction for skilled trades training in Washington, DC. The role focuses on delivering practical demonstrations and guiding students toward employment in electrical, carpentry, HVAC, or plumbing trades.

The contractor will work approximately 20–32 hours per week, typically 6-hour shifts, with potential for future full-time opportunities.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated experience in one or more skilled trades (Electrical, HVAC, Plumbing, or general building maintenance).
• Ability to train and mentor adults with practical, hands-on instruction.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide classroom and hands-on instruction in one or more building trades disciplines.
• Deliver demonstrations and guide students through skills-based activities.
• Support students in developing competencies for employment in skilled trades.
• Maintain a safe, organized, and professional learning environment.
• Assist with maintaining class continuity, student participation, enrollment and program performance.
• Monitor progress and provide coaching and additional instruction as needed.
• Reinforce workplace safety and industry standards.
• Collaborate with program leadership to ensure curriculum delivery.
