Job description

Building Maintenance Service Technician Instructor

The Building Maintenance Service Technician Instructor is responsible for developing and delivering a dynamic, hands‑on curriculum that prepares adult learners for careers in building maintenance. The instructor will manage classroom environments, coordinate curriculum development, and help students gain both technical skills and workplace readiness.

Compensation

$65,000.00 to $68,739.84 per year, commensurate with experience.

Schedule

Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm (40 hours per week)

Location

Center for Employment Training (CET), Conway Center on Benning Road, NE Washington, DC.

Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED; 3–5 years of experience in building maintenance in a residential/apartment setting.
  • Certification in Electrical, Carpentry, HVAC, or Plumbing.
Expected Contributions
  • Deliver building maintenance service courses to students.
  • Maintain curriculum in accordance with Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) recommendations and update as needed.
  • Develop and maintain a program manual that includes lesson plans, quizzes, and tests for the approved curriculum.
  • Modify teaching approach based on specific topics and utilize various experiential, tactical, and relational teaching methods such as lectures, role‑play, group projects, individual assignments, games, and field trips.
  • Prepare written instructional materials for trainees that are explicit and comprehensive.
  • Differentiate instruction among multi‑level learners (creative grouping, leveled assignments, etc.).
  • Ensure eligible students take the occupational credential exam at the designated time.

Reports to

Instructional Manager.

Physical Demands

Must lift up to 50 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit or stand for long periods. This position may be active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing.
