Job summary

Miami University is seeking a Trades Specialist (Mason/Tile Setter) to perform moderately complex masonry work on university facilities. This role focuses on maintaining safe, clean masonry structures, restrooms, showers, and patios, with hours Monday–Friday, 7:00 am to 3:30 pm.

Position requires nine months of post-high school training in masonry and two years of experience, plus a valid driver's license. The hourly role offers a 40-hour week and benefits eligibility.

Qualifications

• Requires nine months training beyond high school in a skilled trade (masonry) and two years of experience in that trade, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Driver's license required.

Responsibilities

• Reviews job orders and blueprints or drawings; inspects site and consults with client; determines best method to complete project
• Estimates amount of materials and equipment needed to complete project; arranges for materials to be at job site
• Performs complex repair or installation on University facilities and property using expertise acquired through specialized training in the masonry trade
• Assists outside contractors as needed; assists crafts-persons from other trades as needed
• Maintains and cleans tools and equipment; maintains work area in a clean and orderly manner
• Performs trade tasks, including constructing forms, tile, concrete, brick/block, and other building rough carpentry work, and responds to emergency situations as assigned
• May prepare some paperwork; may maintain files
