Primary Objective:
This skilled position is responsible for leading and performing a wide range of grounds maintenance and delivery services. The role supports the district’s commitment to providing a safe, clean, and healthy educational environment for students and staff.
Major Areas of Accountability:
- Conduct and/or assign regular inspections of all district grounds
- Train grounds staff and provide feedback about the grounds program
- Ensure team adherence to current safety practices and procedures
- Apply and supervise the application of fertilizers and pesticides
- Create, assign, and manage work orders for grounds crew
- Develop and maintain recurring work schedules for routine maintenance
- Operate and maintain equipment including forklifts, skid steers, zero-turn mowers, chainsaws, and trimmers
- Maintain athletic fields and prepare facilities for sporting events
- Repair fences, railings, benches, signage, pavement, walls, turf, and landscaped areas
- Program and troubleshoot irrigation systems
- Lead or participate in snow removal and de-icing operations
- Complete all assigned tasks professionally and promptly
- Be available for flexible scheduling, including overtime and emergency response as needed - after hours athletic events, graduation ceremonies, etc.
- Research and recommend landscape tools, equipment, and materials based on cost and value
- Coordinate and perform intra-district deliveries, including school furniture, supplies, and other materials
- Maintain clear and professional communication with building and district personnel
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Qualifications:
- Must possess a Missouri Department of Agriculture Public Operator Pesticide License or currently hold a Commercial or Noncommercial Operator License
- Valid driver’s license required
- Ability to safely operate and tow using pickup trucks, box vans, dump trucks, trailers, and similar vehicles
Education and Experience:
- Associate degree (or two years of college coursework) in horticulture or a related field, preferred
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in grounds maintenance, athletic field care, or landscaping
Technical Skills:
- Ability to access and utilize district software systems
- Proficiency in professional email communication
- Experience using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS)
