Job summary

MasTec Communications Group seeks a Skilled Laborer/Groundman to support telecom construction across multiple sites. You will trench, install conduit and fiber, read schematics, and assist with equipment operation while prioritizing safety.

This role offers long-term opportunities, per diem travel (7–10 days in MN/WI), overtime, and a competitive pay rate of $21–$24 per hour, along with comprehensive benefits such as a 401(k), ESPP, life and disability insurance, and health coverage.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of outdoor utilities/construction experience.
• Physically able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in the field.
• Valid CDL A/B license required.
• Willing to travel 7–10 day projects, per diem, MN/WI region.
• Safety-focused with ability to follow PPE protocols.
• Team-oriented with willingness to work in the field.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety procedures and wear PPE.
• Perform trenching, backfilling, site prep, and material handling.
• Assist with underground conduit and fiber installation.
• Support aerial and underground construction as directed.
• Load, unload, and transport materials between sites.
• Operate equipment as directed and certified.
• Site cleanup and overall job-site organization.
• Troubleshoot RF and fiber systems as needed.
• Read construction prints, maps and schematics.
• Gain experience with telecom tools (bucket trucks, reels, power tools).

Responsibilities

As a Skilled Laborer/Groundman, you will support all phases of utility construction for various types of telecom projects. You believe in doing the job right. Being the best. And you're up for the challenge.

• Follow all safety procedures and use proper PPE to ensure the safety of yourself, your crew, and the public
• Perform general labor duties including trenching, backfilling, job site prep, and material handling
• Assist with installation of underground conduit and fiber optic cable, including fiber blowing and placement
• Support aerial and underground construction as directed and trained
• Load, unload, and transport materials, tools, and equipment between job sites
• Assist with equipment and vehicle operations (trucks, trailers, and construction equipment) as directed and certified
• Support site cleanup, basic maintenance, and overall job site organization
• Assist with troubleshooting and basic repair of RF and fiber systems as needed
• Learn to read and interpret construction prints, maps, and design schematics
• Gain experience with telecom tools and equipment such as bucket trucks, line trucks, cable reels, and power tools

• Interest in growing within telecom construction (fiber splicing, coax, drilling, etc.)
• Open to travel to 7-10 day projects per diem (up to 50% within MN/WI and 50+ hours per week, depending on the weather), and working overtime consistently
• Valid and current CDL A/B is required

MOS Codes 12K, 12N,12V, 12W, 21E, 21J, 25P, 91C, 91L, 11B, 1100, 1120, 1316, 9970-9975, 0612, 2T3XX, 2E1XX, 3E2XX, 3E3XX, 9T0XX, BU, UT relate well to this position.

Compensation of $21-$24 per hour, depending on the experience.
