Job summary

Harnden Construction Services, LLC is seeking a Skilled Laborer to join our field team on projects across MD, VA, and PA. Responsibilities include site operations, trenching, pipe and utilities work, and coordination with equipment operators on grade & alignment.

Background checks and drug testing are required. Fort Meade, MD assignments begin immediately; background verification may be extensive due to security obligations.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs all work adhering to OSHA and H&K Safety policies
• Acquires tools needed for daily operations
• Measures distances from grade stakes, drives stakes, and stretches tight line
• Bolts, nails, aligns, and blocks up under forms
• Signals operators of construction equipment to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery to conform to grade specifications
• Levels earth to fine grade specifications
• Mixes concrete
• Smoothes and finishes freshly poured cement or concrete
• Positions, joins, aligns, and seals pipe sections
• Erects scaffolding, shoring, and braces
• Paving duties: assists with pre-run markings, uses a paving lute to fine grade, operates vibratory plate, shovels asphalt, directs traffic around work area
• Pipe duties: gets tools, sets up pipe laser, operates a Wacker and jumping jack for backfilling, uses cut saws, preps pipe, shoots grades, checks grades, connects pipe, checks slope, preps structures
• Other duties as assigned

Overview

Harnden Construction Services, LLC. is a heavy-civil site contractor that performs earthwork and wet utility construction projects throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. Our mission is to build strong communities through project execution, construction employment, and community service. Our staff has extensive knowledge in site construction, large earthwork, complex underground utility installation, landfill construction and structural excavation.

We are looking to add valued members to our operations team due to our growing work volume. As a Skilled Laborer on our team, you will have the opportunity to contribute on a wide range of construction projects in the public and private sectors, ranging in magnitude from >$1M to $20M. You will be joining our field team in performance of our construction contracts throughout Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania.

The ideal candidates would have prior industry-related experience with a dedicated work ethic and be a team-oriented individual. Specific experience with wet utility installations, site demolition, and grading is required. Prior experience with Trimble GPS is a plus. This position will be initially assigned to our ongoing projects at Ft. Meade, MD. Successful passing of a background check, pre-employment physical and drug testing will be required as a condition of employment.

• Pipe Duties:
  • Gets tools needed for daily operations
  • Gets job set up for daily function such as setting up a pipe laser
  • Operates a Wacker and jumping jack to perform backfilling duties
  • Uses cut saws to make pipe proper length
  • Preps pipe for connection before pipe gets lowered
  • Shoots grades and checks grades using laser or conventional methods
  • Performs connection of pipe work
  • Responsible for checking for proper pipe slope
  • Preps structures for installation
• Other duties as assigned
