Position Overview

The Skilled Laborer Carpenter-Bridge is responsible for building, erecting, installing, and repairing forms, structures, and fixtures from wood and other materials to support various construction projects.

Responsibilities
  • Cut and shape structures, forms, or fixtures from wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall.
  • Create wooden forms for concrete pouring, tunnels, bridges, or sewer projects.
  • Erect and dismantle scaffolding.
  • Ensure work accuracy using levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares; correct issues as needed.
  • Seal concrete and wooden bridge structures.
  • Tighten structural steel bolts with impact wrenches.
  • Remove existing structural steel with oxygen and acetylene torches.
  • Assemble and disassemble temporary structures and forms.
  • Load and unload materials and supplies.
  • Wear appropriate PPE at all times.
  • Work extended hours, including evenings, nights, and weekends, as required.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Minimum five (5) years of construction experience, including forming concrete structures.
  • Ability to work effectively at heights.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction materials, tools, equipment, and methods.
  • Strong work ethic.
  • Valid driver's license preferred.
  • Ability to work in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
  • Commitment to safety for oneself and colleagues.
  • Successfully pass background and drug screenings.
Working Conditions
  • Work at various heights and on or near energized electric lines and equipment, which can be hazardous.
  • Lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs.
  • Prolonged standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
  • Frequent use of hands, arms, legs; walking on uneven, slippery surfaces.
  • Operate sharp tools or power equipment.
