Skilled Laborer Carpenter- Bridge
JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary:
The Skilled Laborer Carpenter- Bridge is responsible for the build, erect, installation and repair of forms, structures and other fixtures made from wood and other materials as needed to assist with various types of construction projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Cuts and shapes structures, forms, or other fixtures from wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall.
  2. Creates wooden forms for pouring concrete or for tunnels, bridges, or sewer construction projects.
  3. Erects and dismantles scaffolding.
  4. Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed.
  5. Seals concrete and wooden bridges structures.
  6. Tighten structural steel bolts with impact wrench.
  7. Remove existing structural steel with oxygen and acetylene torch.
  8. Assembling and disassembling all temporary structures and forms.
  9. Loading and unloading materials and supplies.
  10. Must wear proper attire at all times including PPE.
  11. May be required to work extended hours including evenings, nights, and weekends.
  12. Additional duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:

  1. Minimum five (5) years of construction experience, including forming of concrete structures.
  2. Must be able to work effectively at heights.
  3. Must have good communication skills.
  4. Thorough knowledge of all aspects of construction materials, tools, equipment, and methods.
  5. Must have a strong work ethic.
  6. Valid driver's license, preferred.
  7. Must be able to work in DC, Maryland, and Virginia.
  8. Focus on safety of self and co-workers at all times.
  9. Must be able to successfully pass a background and drug screening.

Working Conditions:

  1. Work at various heights above ground for extended periods of time, and can be hazardous due to falls, and/or working on or near energized electric lines and equipment.
  2. This job requires the ability to lift, pull, and push a minimum of 50 lbs.
  3. Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
  4. Constant use of hands, arms, and legs repeatedly on the job, this includes frequently walking on sloped ground and slippery and uneven surfaces.
  5. Must be able to work with sharp tools or power equipment.
  6. This job requires the ability to see, whether naturally or with vision correction tools (glasses, contacts).
  7. Performing strenuous work in varying temperatures, humidity, wind, or other extreme inclement weather conditions for extended periods of time.
  8. Work may be performed in an environment with exposure to extremely hot materials, fuel, fumes, vapors, dust, grease and oils, as well as loud and/or constant noise and exposure to moving equipment.

Note: This position is considered Safety-Sensitive, and therefore subject to various schedule and unscheduled screenings for controlled substances.
