Job summary

Vulcan Materials Company in Bolingbrook, IL is seeking a dependable plant operator to support the operation of our aggregates facility. You will promote safety, assist with plant operations, and help maintain equipment to ensure reliable production.

The role involves daily inspections, operating heavy equipment, and adhering to union guidelines under Local 681. Overtime and outdoor work in all weather are expected as needed.

Qualifications

• Experience in the aggregate or construction industry preferred.
• Knowledge of industrial maintenance principles and practices preferred.
• Must be able to work overtime and extended hours depending on demand; outdoor work in all weather.
• Knowledge of industrial tools and maintenance procedures.

Responsibilities

• Promote safety and prioritize safety standards (MSHA and Vulcan).
• Assist operation of the plant and perform general physical activities (hand tools, cleaning, washing, sweeping, shoveling).
• Assist with servicing, repairing, and adjusting equipment throughout the plant.
• Perform daily inspections to ensure safe, reliable, compliant operations maximizing production.
• Operate heavy construction equipment or similar machinery to support plant operations.
• Other duties as assigned.

What You’ll Do

• Promote Safety: Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards.
• Perform General Physical Activities: Assist with operation of the plant, including using hand tools, cleaning, washing, sweeping, and shoveling materials.
• Repair and Maintain Equipment: Assist co-workers in the servicing, repairing, and adjusting of various pieces of equipment throughout the plant.
• Inspect Equipment and Structures: Perform daily inspections and maintenance of the plant equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and compliant operations that maximize production and minimize interruptions.
• Operate Vehicles and Equipment: Operate heavy construction equipment or similar types of cleanup loaders to assist with the operation of the plant.

Skills You’ll Need

• Experience: Previous experience in the aggregate or construction industry is preferred.
• Knowledge of Best Practices: Knowledge of general principles and practices of industrial maintenance, construction, or aggregate production is preferred.
• Flexibility: Must be able to work overtime and extended hours depending on customer and company demands. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
• Mechanical Skills: Must have some knowledge and experience with industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.

• Compensation: The salary is prescribed by the Local 681 collective bargaining agreement. Experienced candidates will be placed according to the union contract salary scale between $41.05 to $44.00.
