Job summary

Qualifications

• Three (3) years of satisfactory, recent, full time paid experience as a Blacksmith's Helper; or
• A satisfactory equivalent.
• This position requires extraordinary physical effort.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, assist Blacksmiths in doing general blacksmith work.
• Look after and attend a forge.
• Wield a sledge or ball peen hammer and handle tongs.
• Look after tools such as tongs, hammers and swedges.
• Place and heat pieces to be worked.
• Assist in the forging and shaping, manually or by power hammer, of angle irons, bridle irons, tools, automobile parts or other similar pieces of equipment.
• Assist in the repair of iron parts of trucks, automobiles, carts, sweepers, enclosures and other equipment.
