Job summary

Smart Care is seeking a Commercial HVAC/R Service Technician to support customers in the Washington, DC market. You will diagnose problems, perform repairs, and ensure equipment runs reliably across rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, and walk-in coolers/freezers.

You will service commercial equipment, travel within the DC area, perform preventive maintenance, and communicate findings clearly to customers and the service team. Safety and documentation are essential in every job.

Qualifications

• Hands-on experience servicing and repairing commercial HVAC and refrigeration equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and ability to work independently beyond routine maintenance.
• Ability to read wiring diagrams and use diagnostic tools to identify causes of failures.
• EPA Section 608 certification appropriate to the equipment serviced; Universal preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and a driving record that meets company requirements.
• Clear communication, dependable follow-through, and a professional approach to customer service.
• Willingness to travel throughout the Washington, DC service area and work in rooftops, walk-ins, and other spaces.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair commercial HVAC and refrigeration systems.
• Service rooftop units, split systems, heat pumps, walk-in coolers/freezers, and ice machines.
• Identify electrical, mechanical, airflow, control, and refrigerant-related issues.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to improve reliability.
• Complete repairs safely and verify proper system operation before leaving.
• Explain findings and repair recommendations to customers.
• Document diagnostics, work performed, parts used, and follow-up needs.
• Coordinate with dispatch and service leadership to keep calls moving.
• Follow safety procedures, refrigerant-handling requirements, and codes.
• Participate in on-call rotation and respond to emergencies as scheduled.
