SkillBridge DOD - Field Service Technician

A Carolina Handling Field Service Technician works at various customer sites or in a shop environment. This role is responsible for troubleshooting electro-mechanical problems, installations, and performing unscheduled repairs and scheduled maintenance on equipment. The role emphasizes excellent customer service in a polite and professional manner while working in a team environment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• High school diploma, plus one to three years of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic experience in a similar environment, or equivalent college or vocational education.
• Effective communication skills with customers, management, and co-workers.
• Ability to read and interpret schematics and service manuals.
• Ability to follow verbal and demonstrated instructions.
• Competence in performing arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
• Knowledge of industry innovations and product availability to make informed recommendations.
• Proficiency with volt, ohm, and multi-meters.
• Strong mechanical and electrical aptitude.
• Ability to operate drills, grinders, presses, forklifts, hoists, overhead cranes, and personal hand tools safely.
• Resourcefulness in utilizing support resources within the company.
• Additional relevant knowledge, skills, and abilities as needed for assigned duties.

Physical Requirements

Regularly required to stand, handle, reach, talk, and hear. Frequently walk, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl. Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and over 100 pounds occasionally. Visual abilities include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.

Working Conditions

Work in diverse environments including manufacturing, distribution, cold storage, and outdoors, with exposure to oil, grease, dirt, and potential hazards like equipment movement and chemicals. Occasional exposure to high places, fumes, and airborne particles. Noise levels vary from moderate to loud. Overtime, after-hours, weekend work, and travel (including overnight) are required based on customer needs.
