Job summary

Vail Health Hospital is seeking a seasonal care technician/EMT to transport patients from ski areas to the Emergency Department or clinic in Vail, Colorado. You will work with Ski Patrol, follow transport criteria, and maintain safety and documentation throughout your shift.

The role requires BLS and up to one year of relevant experience; valid driver’s license is needed. Seasonal benefits include health insurance, wellness reimbursement, and a 403(b) retirement contribution eligibility.

  • BLS certification required or obtain within specified period.

Responsibilities

  • Transports injured or ill skiers from ski areas to the Emergency Department or clinic.
  • Maintains radio and cell phone communication with Ski Patrol during shift.
  • Coordinates patient handoffs with Ski Patrol and follows transport criteria.
  • Maintains vehicle and equipment, ensuring safe driving and operation.
  • Documents patient care services in records and logs as required.
  • Upholds infection control policies and HIPAA compliance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

About the opportunity:

Assumes responsibility for the safe transport of injured or ill skiers from the local ski areas to the Emergency Department or Emergency Services Clinic. Provides care for all patient types based on age specific criteria.

What you will do:
  1. Maintains radio and cell phone communication with Ski Patrol throughout shift. Coordinates with Ski Patrol for safe patient hand off.
  2. Follows criteria for patient types who may be transported via skier transport versus ambulance transport. Safely transports appropriate patients to the Emergency Department.
  3. Exhibits safe driving skills and reports any Skier Transport vehicle issues in a timely manner. Exhibits proper care of vehicles and equipment.
  4. Demonstrates clinical knowledge in all patient types and age groups to meet patient care needs/outcomes within the practice. Displays cultural competency and ability to work with diverse patient populations.
  5. Maintains diagnostic and medication logs as required by policy. Documents patient care services accurately in patient and department records.
  6. Protects patients and employees by assisting in maintaining a clean, safe working environment, and adhering to infection control policies and protocols.
  7. Role models the principles of a Just Culture.
  8. Perform other duties as assigned. Must be HIPAA compliant.

What you will need:
Experience:
  • One year of experience as a care tech or EMT preferred.
License(s):
  • Valid, unrestricted driver's license required.
Certification(s):
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) by the American Heart Association required.

And, one of the following is required:

  • Certification in the state of Colorado as an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)
  • Certification in the state of Colorado as a Paramedic
  • Wilderness First Responder Certification
  • Outdoor Emergency Care Certification by the National Ski Patrol
Computer / Typing:
  • Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job‑specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc.

Must have working knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English.

Education:
  • N/A

Pay is based upon relevant education and experience per hour.

Hourly Pay:

$20.67 — $24.37 USD
