Job summary

Granby Ranch is seeking Ski & Ride School instructors to provide safe, educational lessons using PSIA/AASI methods. You will adapt to each guest's abilities, aiming to build confidence and lifelong enjoyment of snow sports.

Responsibilities include delivering engaging lessons, ensuring guest safety, and collaborating with staff to maintain a high-quality guest experience on and off the snow.

Qualifications

  • Must be able to ski or snowboard at a double black diamond level.
  • Strong communication skills and courteous interaction with staff and guests.
  • Knowledge of PSIA/AASI teaching methods.
  • Maintain positive attitude when communicating with guests, students, and staff.
  • Fluent in English; Spanish language skills are a plus.

Salary Range:$19 -$28 per hour depending on certification

POSITIONSUMMARY:

Ski and/or Snowboard Instructorsareresponsible forproviding a safe, enjoyable, and educational learning experience whilerepresentingthe values and standards of the Ski & Ride School. Instructors teach skiing and/or snowboarding using current PSIA or AASI teaching methods, adapting lessons to each guest's individual abilities, learning style, and goals. They are expected to create a positive environment that builds confidence, promotes skill development, and fosters a lifelong enjoyment of snow sports.

Guest safety is the highest priority in every lesson. Ski/Snowboard Instructors are responsible for making sound decisions regarding student progression, selecting appropriate terrain, and providing instruction that challenges guests while ensuring they remain safe, comfortable, and engaged. Instructors are expected to maintain a high level of professionalism, work collaboratively with fellow staff and management, and contribute to an exceptional guest experience both on and off the snow.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Prioritize the safety of all guests and employees by following all Ski & Ride School safety standards, policies, and procedures.
  • Teach skiing and/or snowboarding using current PSIA or AASI teaching methodologies and fundamentals.
  • Assess each guest's physical ability, confidence, and learning style to provide individualized instruction.
  • Determine when students are mentally and physically ready to progress to new skills or terrain.
  • Identify skills requiring additional practice and select appropriate terrain and teaching methods to maximize learning.
  • Maintain proficiency in skiing and/or snowboarding to effectively demonstrate techniques and provide high-quality instruction.
  • Foster a fun, encouraging, and inclusive learning environment that promotes guest confidence and enjoyment.
  • Communicate with fellow instructors regarding lesson group changes to ensure guests are placed in the most appropriate class.
  • Maintain professional and respectful communication with coworkers, resolving disagreements in a calm and constructive manner.
  • Communicate guest concerns, operational needs, and improvement opportunities to supervisors and management.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures, including professional appearance standards, dress code, teaching standards, guest service expectations, and drug and alcohol policies.
  • Arrive prepared and on time for all scheduled work assignments and conduct lessons for their scheduled duration.
  • Assist with Ski & Ride School operations, including boot fitting, ski and snowboard equipment setup, and basic ski technician responsibilities.
  • Support other Ski & Ride School and resort operations as assigned to ensure a high-quality guest experience.
  • Adhere to andenforcechild safety laws and mandated reporting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support Ski & Ride School operations.
ADDITIONALDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Act as a positive, professional role model, adhering to the company’s hospitality standards.
  • Maintain an exceptional level of guest service in all interaction with guests, fellow employees,and management.
  • Ability to work with other employees in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask and shift from inside to outdoor job duties in a timely manner.
  • Available towork onweekends and holidays.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
  • Must be able to ski or snowboard at a double black diamond level. Proficiency in both disciplines is not required but preferred.
  • Must have strong communication skills and interact courteously with staff and guests.
  • Must have knowledge of PSIA/AASI teaching methods.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude when communicating with guests, students, and staff.
  • Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate, and not interrupting at inappropriate times.
  • Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Actively looking for ways to help people.
  • Ability to speak, read, write in English fluently. Ability to speak, read and write in Spanish is preferred.
EDUCATION,EXPERIENCE,ANDCERTIFICATIONS:
  • High School diploma or equivalent required.
  • PSIA-AASICertificationpreferred but not required.
  • Previous experience teaching snow sports preferred.
  • Previous experience working with children required.
  • Must be 18 years of age or older.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTSAND WORKING CONDITIONS:
  • Must be physically capableof performingstrenuous exercise at 8,000-10,000 feetwith variableweatherconditions.
  • Must be able to lift up to50lbs.
  • Dexterity forutilizingkeyboard, hand tools, ski equipment, kitchenequipment, etc.
  • Verbal and auditory abilities necessary for communication with others.
  • Provide own ski/ride equipment, clothing, and accessories necessary forworkingoutdoors ina highalpine winter environmentother than uniform and other provided equipment.
COMPENSATION:
Certification Levels:
  • Non-certified Instructor (no certification required) - Starts at $19/hr
  • PSIA/AASI 1 (Must have dues paid and successful completion of Level 1; provide certificate/card)- Starts at $21/hr
  • PSIA/AASI 2 (Must have dues paid and successful completion of Level 1 and Level 2 with secondary experience i.e. CS or FS; provide certificate/card)- Starts at $23.50/hr
  • PSIA/AASI 3 (Must have dues paid and successful completion of Level 1, Level 2, and Level 3 with secondary experience i.e. CS or FS; provide certificate/card)- Starts at $26/hr

Granby Ranch is located in Granby, Colorado (90 miles northwest of Denver) and all jobs are performed on site. Employee housing is available for full-time seasonal and year-round employees.
