Job summary

Solitude Mountain Resort is seeking a Rope Rescue Specialist to lead on-mountain rope rescue training and maintenance for cliff and high-angle operations. The role includes inventory control, equipment maintenance, and developing training materials for patrollers.

The ideal candidate will demonstrate expert knowledge of knots, anchors, and rope systems, and hold Ski Patrol Level 1 or higher. This seasonal full-time position reports to patrol leadership and is part of the ski patrol union.

Qualifications

• Must be Solitude Mountain Patroller.
• Expert knowledge in cliff and high-angle rescues with knots, anchors and rope systems.
• Ability to conduct high-angle toboggan rescues and instruct others.

Responsibilities

• Oversee rope rescue training for ski patrol with management and other specialists.
• Document rope rescue training and maintain training records.
• Maintain inventory log of high-angle rescue equipment.
• Research new rope rescue techniques and equipment; prepare orders as needed.
• Care for and store all rescue ropes and equipment properly; conduct pre/post-season inspections.

Rope Rescue Specialist

Appointment Type: Seasonal Full Time

Overview

This is a non-supervisory position that will provide on-mountain training in the use of cliff and high angle rope rescues in all types of terrain. This position is responsible for the maintenance and ordering of all cliff rescue/high angle rescue equipment. The Rope Rescue Specialist reports directly to the Director of Patrol, Ski Patrol Manager, and Ski Patrol Supervisor. This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Solitude Ski Patrol Union.

Key Requirements

• Must be employed as a Solitude Mountain Patroller
• The ability to demonstrate expert knowledge and skills in cliff and high angle rescues that involve knots, anchors and rope systems
• The ability to conduct high angle toboggan rescues
• The ability to teach and train patrollers in the use of rope rescue techniques in all terrain
• Rigging for Rescue 'Rope Rescue 1 Fundamentals' or equivalent as determined by Patrol Management
• Ski Patrol Level 1 or above

Duties

• Oversee and coordinate rope rescue training for ski patrol with patrol management and other specialist roles
• Properly document all rope rescue training
• Maintain an up-to-date inventory log of all high angle rescue equipment
• The ability to research new and different rescue techniques
• The ability to research and prepare orders of rescue ropes and specialized equipment as needed
• The ability and skills to properly care for and maintain all rescue ropes and equipment, including ensuring proper storage
• Conduct and document pre-season, post-season, monthly, and post-use inspections.
