Job summary

Powder Mountain is seeking a Ski Patrol member for a seasonal, full-time role at our Eden, Utah resort. You will mitigate hazards, maintain ropelines, respond to emergencies, and interact with Powder Mountain guests with a friendly, professional demeanor.

This position requires current medical credentials (OEC or Utah EMT, or National Registry EMT), CPR/AED certification, and high-level skiing or snowboarding ability in varied conditions.

Qualifications

  • Current medical credential such as OEC, Utah EMT, or National Registry EMT is required or may be substituted by related experience.
  • CPR/AED certification is required.
  • Strong skiing or snowboarding ability in various conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Commitment to assigned work and training schedule.
  • Provide first response using established protocols and document accordingly.
  • Interact with guests and staff in a hospitable, professional manner.
  • Perform incident investigations and assist with mountain operations as needed.

Salary Range: $26.00 - $47.50 Hourly

Powder Mountain Patrol is expected to mitigate hazards in the resort, maintain ropelines, respond to emergencies, and interact with Powder guests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide first response using established protocols, local protocols and adheres to Powder Mountain reports and documentation policies
  • Good interpersonal skills

  • Able to interact with guests and staff hospitably
  • Ability to quickly become familiar and oriented to facilities and terrain.
  • Basic knowledge of avalanche terrain and hazard awareness
  • Basic knowledge of mountain travel and rescue awareness
  • Basic conception of how to Identify, correct, mitigate and/or mark hazards
  • Willingness to progress one’s skill set and attend continuing education
  • Oversee the opening and closing of terrain according to weather and conditions.
  • Perform chairlift evacuation, low angle rescue, rope rescues
  • Ability to use explosive and avalanche mitigation techniques
  • Perform mountain sweeps/locate guests
  • Assist guest with equipment problems (dropped equipment, broken equipment, etc.) and provides courtesy transport
  • Completes all mountain and patrol paperwork as necessary (trail log, run reports, etc.)
  • Perform Incident Investigation when necessary
  • Assist Groomers with mountain maintenance
  • Help train newer patrol members and candidates
  • Maintain the proper height of lift tower, light pole and signpost, padding
  • Assist with mountain maintenance, i.e., lift lines ropes, signage, snow clearing
  • Create and maintain a culture of positivity and hospitality for our coworkers and our guests
Requirements and/or Qualifications
  • Proficiency in, and proof of current, valid medical credential of; National Ski Patrol Outdoor Emergency Care (OEC), Utah EMT License, National Registry EMT certification or above; or other recognized credential and related experience may be accepted by Powder Mountain
  • Professional level CPR/AED certification
  • Follow instructions of patrol lead, manager or supervisor
  • Above average skiing or snowboarding skills in various snow and weather conditions
  • Ability to utilize required phone applications
  • Ability to familiarize oneself with terrain and mountain logistics
Uniform Requirement
  • Patrol Coat and Black Pants/Bibs (Provided)
  • Gear Requirements (Gear Stipend provided based on position and tenure)
  • Aid Belt or Pack (Provided to mitigation team workers)
  • Shovel, Beacon and Probe (Provided to mitigation team workers)
  • Helmet and Personal Protective Equipment
Physical Requirements
  • Ability ski/ride in various snow and weather conditions
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
  • Ability to hike at elevation
  • Ability to work outside, in extreme weather conditions
Working Environment

Based primarily outside and is exposed to extreme temperatures, sun and wind exposure, inclement weather (rain, snow, ice) and high altitudes (9,000 ft+)

Certifications

Medical Certifications, CPR, and Avalanche Certifications should be submitted with this application
