Job summary

Splendora-Independent-School-District's Skating Rink is seeking a Skating Rink Assistant Manager to support daily operations, supervise staff, and ensure a safe, welcoming environment for guests. You will assist with admissions, concessions, skate rental, parties and events, and enforce rink policies; you may lead the facility in the General Manager's absence.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Assist the General Manager with the daily operation of the skating rink.
  • Serve as Manager on Duty when assigned and assume responsibility for facility operations in the General Manager's absence.
  • Open and close the facility according to established procedures.
  • Help supervise, direct, and support rink employees during assigned shifts.
  • Assign workstations and duties and ensure employees remain productive throughout their shifts.
  • Assist with training new employees on job duties, customer service expectations, safety procedures, and rink policies.
  • Model professional behavior, teamwork, reliability, and excellent customer service.
  • Address employee questions or concerns and promptly communicate significant personnel issues to the General Manager.
  • Provide friendly, professional, and responsive customer service to guests of all ages.
  • Greet customers and help create a positive and welcoming atmosphere.
  • Respond to customer questions, concerns, and complaints in a professional manner.
  • Resolve routine customer service issues and refer significant concerns to the General Manager when appropriate.
  • Help enforce facility rules consistently and respectfully.
  • Assist with crowd management during busy skating sessions, parties, special events, and holidays.
  • Monitor the skating floor and other areas of the facility to promote guest and employee safety.
  • Ensure rink rules and safety procedures are consistently followed.
  • Respond promptly to accidents, injuries, emergencies, or unsafe conditions.
  • Assist with incident and accident documentation as required.
  • Maintain awareness of building capacity, emergency exits, and emergency procedures.
  • Immediately report safety hazards, maintenance concerns, or damaged equipment.
  • Help ensure walkways, entrances, restrooms, skating areas, and public spaces remain clean and free of hazards.
  • Assist with admissions, skate rental, concessions, and other point-of-sale functions as needed.
  • Operate registers and point-of-sale systems accurately.
  • Handle cash, credit card transactions, refunds, and other payments in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assist with register counts, cash reconciliation, deposits, and end-of-shift procedures.
  • Protect company funds, property, keys, and confidential information.
  • Assist guests with skate rental and proper skate sizing.
  • Monitor the condition and organization of rental skates.
  • Ensure rental equipment is returned, cleaned, and stored appropriately.
  • Monitor skating sessions and help maintain an orderly skating environment.
  • Assist inexperienced skaters and guests when appropriate.
  • Help enforce skating direction, speed, conduct, and other rink safety rules.
  • Assist with birthday parties, private events, school events, fundraisers, group reservations, and special skating sessions.
  • Help ensure party rooms and reserved areas are prepared before scheduled events.
  • Coordinate with party hosts and other employees to ensure food, beverages, skating, and other scheduled activities occur as planned.
  • Communicate with customers regarding event needs and address concerns promptly.
  • Assist with setup and cleanup before and after events.
  • Assist with concession operations as needed.
  • Ensure food and beverage preparation areas are maintained in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Monitor food inventory and communicate supply needs to management.
  • Ensure employees follow appropriate food-handling and sanitation procedures.
  • Assist with food preparation and service during busy periods when necessary.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and attractive facility.
  • Conduct routine walkthroughs of the skating floor, lobby, restrooms, concessions, party areas, parking areas, and other spaces.

  • Report equipment failures, facility damage, or repair needs to the General Manager.

Pay Grade: $12.37/hr

Primary Purpose:

The Skating Rink Assistant Manager supports the General Manager in overseeing daily operations and ensuring a safe, clean, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for guests and employees. This position assists with staff supervision, customer service, cash handling, concessions, birthday parties and special events, facility operations, and enforcement of rink policies and safety procedures.

The Assistant Manager serves as a leader on duty and may be responsible for managing the facility in the General Manager's absence.

Qualifications:

Tools/Equipment Used: Cash register, point-of-sale system, credit card terminal, telephone, computer, printer, calculator, skate-rental equipment, cleaning and sanitation equipment, concession equipment, and other standard office or recreational-facility equipment.

Posture: Frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, and twisting.

Motion: Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate equipment, handle money, issue skates, prepare concession items, clean equipment, and complete clerical duties.

Lifting: Frequent lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 25 pounds; occasional lifting and carrying of items weighing up to 50 pounds with assistance.

Environment: Work is performed primarily indoors in a public recreational facility. Exposure to loud noise, flashing or reduced lighting, crowds, food products, cleaning chemicals, moving skaters, slippery surfaces, temperature changes, and potentially stressful situations. May work around children and large groups of patrons.

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; accurately handle money and complete transactions; respond appropriately to emergencies; exercise sound judgment; and manage multiple tasks and priorities.

Work Schedule: Must be available to work a flexible schedule that may include days, evenings, weekends, holidays, school breaks, district events, and special events.
