Job summary

City of Durango Parks and Recreation seeks a Skating Instructor to teach beginner skaters ages 4–15 foundational skills through fun, age-appropriate lessons on the ice. You will create a safe, encouraging environment while guiding participants through progressing skill levels.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of ice skating and fundamentals of instruction.
  • Experience with children in educational or recreational settings preferred.
  • CPR/AED and first aid certifications required or obtainable.
  • Ability to read and write at a basic level for job performance.

  • Participate in preseason orientation, staff meetings, and in-service training.
  • Arrive on time and prepared for assigned lessons.
  • Care for program equipment, supplies, records, and facilities.
  • Follow department policies and procedures and represent the City of Durango professionally.

Job description

Help young skaters build their skills on the ice as a Skating Instructor with City of Durango Parks and Recreation. You’llteach beginner skaters ages 4–15 foundational skating skillsthrough fun, age-appropriate lessons designed to help participants progress from one skill level to the next. This position is a great fit for someone who enjoys working with children, has strong skating skills, and can create a safe and encouraging environment for young skaters learning on the ice.

What You’ll Do in This Role:

You Have:
  • Knowledge of ice skating and the fundamentals of skating instruction
  • Experience working with children in an educational or recreational environment is preferred
  • Ability to obtain CPR, automated external defibrillator (AED), and first aid certifications
  • Ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance
You Will Succeed in This Role If You:
  • Can confidently demonstrate and teach foundational skating skills to beginner skaters
  • Create fun, age-appropriate lessons that keep young skaters engaged and learning
  • Communicate clearly and patiently with children and parents
  • Stay attentive to participant safety and individual needs while working on the ice
