Job summary

City of Durango is seeking a Tennis Program Instructor to organize and lead tennis lessons for youth and adults, focusing on fundamentals and engaging programming. You will create age-appropriate plans, manage equipment, and communicate schedules to families while maintaining safe court conditions.

Qualifications include knowledge of tennis rules and gameplay, plus CPR/AED/First Aid certifications. Prior coaching or playing experience is preferred, and the role is part-time seasonal within Parks

• Attend pre-season orientation and required staff trainings.

Help Durango ace their tennis game! As a Tennis Program Instructor, you’ll guide players through drills, games, and lessons designed to build fundamentals and keep participants engaged. You’ll organize sessions, communicate with families, and help create a program that is welcoming, consistent, and easy to navigate for all skill levels.

What You’ll Do in This Role:

• Organize and lead tennis lessons, drills, and matches for both youth and adult participants
• Instruct players on proper tennis techniques, footwork, and sportsmanship according to the Durango Parks and Recreation philosophy
• Develop age-appropriate lesson plans and submit supply requests for tennis equipment to the Recreation Supervisor
• Verify that all courts are free of hazards and monitor weather conditions to keep participants safe during play
• Clearly explain program expectations and provide parents and participants with necessary schedule and equipment information
• Manage tennis equipment and supplies to make sure the courts and gear are properly maintained
• Participate in pre-season orientation and attend all required staff meetings and training sessions

You Have:

• Knowledge of tennis rules and gameplay
• Possession of, or the ability to obtain, CPR, AED, and First Aid certifications

You Will Succeed in This Role If You:

• Have prior experience playing or coaching tennis and understand the specific rules and techniques of the sport
• Create a welcoming environment and communicate clearly with players, parents, and coworkers
• Can maintain the physical condition required for tennis instruction, including standing, reaching, and moving on the court for up to 60 minutes at a time
• Arrive on time, dress professionally in staff attire, and follow all department policies and procedures
