Job summary

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking a Site Technician II to support the Hot Shot Crew within the Office of Land Management. The role involves maintaining and repairing buildings and site equipment, operating a pool of heavy equipment, and assisting with special projects.

The position is based in Grafton, IL, and requires a CDL A with air brakes. Work is office-bound on a schedule Mon-Fri 7:00am–3:00pm with strict safety and training requirements, including background checks

Qualifications

• Requires high school diploma or equivalent and two years of maintenance or farming experience.
• Experience with building trades and operation of heavy equipment is preferred.
• Valid Class A CDL with Air Brakes is required.

Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in the maintenance and repair of Department buildings and site equipment
• Operates and maintains pool of specialized equipment such as backhoes, tree spakes, stump cutters, boom mowers, brush chippers, farming and construction machinery of greater than 80 HP, and drones (including spraying drones)
• Provides technical support and assistance on special projects for Land Management and the Office of Resource Conservation Divisions (Wildlife Forestry Fisheries and Natural Heritage)
• Operates dump trucks and two ton trucks with air brakes in conjunction with ten ton equipment trailer to transport equipment and supplies
• Performs maintenance duties such as mowing grass, cutting/trimming trees and shrubs, sprays pesticides and herbicides
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery

Preferred Qualifications

• Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing
• One (1) year of experience following written and oral instructions
• One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations

• Requires possession of a valid Class A CDL driver's license with Air Brakes designation
• Ability to obtain herbicide or pesticide operator's licenseAbility to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis
