About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Site Superintendent to run day-to-day field operations on heavy civil and sitework construction projects for municipal and public agency clients across the New York metropolitan area. This role owns the jobsite — directing crews and subcontractors, enforcing safety and quality standards, and keeping production on schedule.
We're looking for a hands-on leader who commands respect in the field, communicates clearly with the project management team, and takes full ownership of getting the work done safely, on time, and to spec.
Key Responsibilities
Field Operations & Production Management
- Direct daily field operations, including crew assignments, equipment deployment, and work sequencing.
- Monitor production rates and quantities against schedule and budget targets, flagging delays early.
- Coordinate site logistics, staging, and access with subcontractors, suppliers, and neighboring operations.
Crew & Subcontractor Supervision
- Supervise field crews and subcontractors, ensuring work is performed per plans, specifications, and means-and-methods expectations.
- Hold daily toolbox talks and coordination meetings with foremen and subcontractor supervisors.
- Manage manpower and equipment needs, escalating resourcing issues to the Project Manager.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce site safety programs, OSHA requirements, and company policies at all times.
- Conduct routine site safety inspections and toolbox talks; document and correct hazards immediately.
- Maintain a zero-incident culture and lead by example on PPE and safe work practices.
- Execute the project schedule in the field, adjusting daily sequencing to hit milestone dates.
- Communicate schedule impacts, delays, and field conditions to the Project Manager in real time.
- Support look-ahead scheduling and coordinate trade sequencing to avoid conflicts.
Quality Control & Layout
- Verify field layout, elevations, and grades against drawings; flag discrepancies before work proceeds.
- Conduct quality control checks on completed work and coordinate corrective action as needed.
- Support inspections and testing coordination with owners, agencies, and third-party inspectors.
Materials, Equipment & Documentation
- Track material deliveries, staging, and usage against project needs; flag shortages or delays early.
- Maintain daily reports, field logs, photos, and production tracking documentation.
- Coordinate equipment needs, rentals, and maintenance with the office and equipment manager.
Public Agency & Inspection Coordination
- Coordinate on-site inspections with DOB, DEP, DOT, utility companies, and other public agencies.
- Support permit compliance and agency documentation requirements in the field.
Qualifications
- 7–10+ years of civil/sitework construction experience, including at least 3–5 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
- Proven experience with excavation, utilities, concrete, asphalt, and site development work.
- Experience on municipal or public agency projects strongly preferred.
- Supervisor SST (62 Hour)certification required (or ability to obtain promptly upon hire).
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills under field pressure.
- Ability to manage multiple crews and subcontractors across a fast-paced, active jobsite.
- NYC DOB Construction Superintendent License preferred
Technical Skills
- Ability to read and interpret civil/sitework drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Working knowledge of surveying and layout tools and practices.
- Comfortable using Bluebeam / Adobe PDF for drawing markups in the field.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Word for daily reports and field documentation.
- Bonus: experience with Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, or similar field management platforms.
- Primarily field-based, on active jobsites across Long Island, NYC, and surrounding regions.
- Fast-paced construction environment with multiple crews and subcontractors on site.
- Requires strong on-the-ground decision-making, prioritization, and follow-through.
- Direct exposure to project management and senior leadership.
- Clear pathway for growth into senior superintendent or operations roles.
Additional Requirements
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation; willingness to travel between jobsites as needed.
- Strong familiarity with civil/sitework scopes: excavation, utilities, concrete, asphalt, unfinished carpentry, small-scale steel erection/miscellaneous metals, and site amenities.
- Ability to traverse active jobsites (uneven ground, excavations, ladders, varying weather) and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work extended hours and adjust schedule to project needs, including occasional early mornings or weekend work.
Preferred (Not Required)
