SITE SAFETY MANAGER

We are seeking a SITE SAFETY MANAGER for one of our Canistota, South Dakota projects. This role is responsible for leading and managing all aspects of the project-specific health and safety program. The Site Safety Manager will deliver site safety training to all employees, provide technical safety guidance to project leadership, and ensure compliance with all safety standards and regulations.

This position will also support the continued growth of Sargent Electric's De Pere, Wisconsin office.

The position is a temporary (four-to-six months), or temporary-to-full-time opportunity for a candidate willing to travel to multiple jobsites. This is a W2 role, including a per diem, if applicable, and a company vehicle.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Provide general safety training to all personnel at the site and maintain training records that ensure compliance with OSHA and Department of Labor & Industry as well as all local and customer requirements
• Sound knowledge of OSHA 1926 as well as applicable consensus standards such as NFPA 70E and ASTM
• Support site leadership after incidents by using proven investigative skills to gather all the facts in a logical and sequential manner
• Assist leadership in developing all causal factors for all Near Miss and other incidents
• Develop corrective actions for each causal factor utilizing the Hierarchy of Controls
• Be the voice for safety during all project planning meetings and provide the site leadership the safety support to make the safe decision
• Assist in the development of Job Hazard Analyses and mitigation strategy that will prevent the opportunity for injury
• Evaluate effectiveness of safety programs through daily field walks and compliance auditing
• Provide coaching and mentoring to the site leadership that enables them to correct employees exhibiting unsafe behaviors and provide recognition for employees exhibiting safe behaviors
• Provide regular feedback to project leadership and the Regional Safety Manager in a constructive manner on need areas for safety improvement and recognition.
• Meet regularly with the field personnel and assist them in the development of project-specific corrective action plans to address safety issues
• Collaborate with other safety professionals on the overall jobsite to discuss incident and near miss incidents and prevention measures throughout the site
• Routinely meet with the Regional Safety Manager to discuss employee behaviors and factors for a safe working environment
• Perform weekly toolbox talks with employees
• Onboard all new employees and conduct the new hire orientation and training as required

What You'll Bring

• Minimum of 2 years of construction safety experience, preferably within the electrical contracting, utility, renewable energy, or heavy industrial construction industries
• Strong understanding of construction safety regulations, hazard recognition, and risk mitigation practices, with the ability to identify unsafe conditions and implement corrective actions
• Working knowledge of OSHA standards, NFPA 70E, and other applicable safety regulations
• Ability to work independently while effectively partnering with project leadership, field personnel, subcontractors, and clients to promote a positive safety culture
• Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence behaviors and build credibility across all levels of the organization
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced construction environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, Outlook, and the ability to prepare reports, safety documentation, and training materials
• Demonstrated commitment to safety, professionalism, accountability, and continuous improvement
• Current CPR, First Aid, and AED Certification, or ability to obtain certification upon hire
• Must possess a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
• Must successfully pass all pre-employment screenings, including but not limited to background checks, motor vehicle record review, drug and alcohol testing, site-specific security requirements, and any other testing required as a condition of employment

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience in a safety-related role within the electrical contracting or construction industry
• Professional safety certifications such as CHST, OSHA 500, OSHA 510, CSP, ASP, or equivalent are preferred
• Utility, substation, transmission, renewable energy, or solar construction experience
• Experience working in a union construction environment and familiarity with union craft operations
• Bilingual communication skills (English/Spanish preferred)
• Experience conducting safety training, incident investigations, safety audits, and root cause analyses
• Knowledge of behavior-based safety programs and proactive safety engagement initiatives
