Job summary

Gilbane Building is seeking a Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO) to supervise all safety efforts on a large project with direct reports in California. You will lead safety programs, mentor the site team, and ensure compliance with OSHA and client requirements.

You will coordinate trainings, perform SafetyNet inspections, review JHA, and foster a culture of safety. This role offers growth within a family-owned contractor known for quality and a strong safety performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety Management or Engineering required/preferred.
• 5+ years federal construction safety management experience for a general contractor required.
• BCSP credential.
• EM385-1-1 40 hour training.
• OSHA 30 hours construction.
• Competent Person Training - Fall Protection, Excavation, Scaffolding.

Responsibilities

• Supports all safety efforts on the project and promotes the Gilbane Cares safety culture.
• Ensures contractor activities are preplanned for safety through scope review and meetings.
• Maintains all safety related documentation and OSHA compliance.
• Provides safety training to project teams on Gilbane, client, and OSHA requirements.
• Coaches project team in hazard identification and corrective actions.
• Manages workload and performance of direct reports with company standards.
