Job summary

Kiewit is seeking a Safety Specialist I for its Industrial Construction teams in Abilene, TX and project sites. You will implement and audit the Site Specific Safety Plan, support the contract safety requirements, and help ensure work is performed safely while coordinating with operations and craft.

The role requires 3+ years in construction safety, knowledge of OSHA rules, ability to travel/relocate, and strong communication.

Qualifications

• Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or related field preferred.
• 3+ years of construction safety experience.
• Knowledge of Federal and OSHA requirements.
• Certification as Safety Professional or EMT preferred.
• Willingness to travel and relocate as required.
• Proficient with MS Word and Excel.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication, attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Develop, review, update, and communicate the Site Specific Safety Plan with all stakeholders.
• Collaborate with craft daily to promote safety program buy-in and ownership.
• Exercise Stop Work Responsibility to enforce policies and plans.
• Plan and problem-solve with field operations based on leading indicators.
• Provide safety training on policies, OSHA/MSHA requirements, and client needs.
• Maintain project files compliant with OSHA/MSHA and internal policies.
• Assist with incident investigations and corrective actions.
• Support first aid services and coordinate with EMS/clinics.
• Complete daily hazard inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
• Review work plans and packs prior to starting work.
