Essel Environmental is hiring a Site Safety Health Officer (SSHO).

In this position, you will play a key role in ensuring the projects comply with local, state, and federal health and safety guidelines and procedures. You will ensure the safety of all employees, verify that all projects are up to code, and provide advice and recommendations for safety improvements.

SSHO Duties and Responsibilities

Below is a list of SSHO responsibilities, but not limited to. Additional duties may be assigned depending on the project.

• Collect and maintain Safety Data Sheets
• Conduct monthly eye wash, fire extinguisher, and first aid kit inspections
• Conduct safety orientations for new workers
• Investigate all accidents and near-misses
• Perform daily equipment inspections
• Enforce the contractor’s safety program
• Inspect the site and personnel work to identify issues or non-conformance (e.g., not using protective equipment)
• Ensure the site is hazard-free
• Maintain compliance with the Accident Prevention Plan
• Obtain, post, and keep burn permits
• Perform daily site safety inspections
• Present daily safety briefings
• Respond to safety concerns
• Stop unsafe acts or processes
• Train workers on safety issues as needed
• Conduct emergency drills
• Verify tools and equipment are safe and adequate
• Monitor worker safety on site
• Write and review all AHAs

Requirements

The following are common qualifications for an SSHO; some projects may require additional certifications or experience.

• First Aid and CPR certification
• Completion of 40-Hour EM 385-1-1 Course
• Completion of 30-Hour OSHA Construction Course
• At least 5 years of hands-on construction safety experience as an SSHO
• Ability to pass a background check and drug test
