Job description

Triumph Construction Corp. is looking for a dedicated and experienced Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to lead safety and health initiatives at our construction sites. This role involves implementing safety programs, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and promoting a strong culture of safety among all site personnel. The ideal candidate must be comfortable commuting to Staten Island.

Requirements
  1. Conduct daily safety and health inspections and maintain a written log which includes area/operation inspected, date of inspection, identified hazards, recommended corrective actions, estimated and actual dates of corrections. Attach safety inspection logs to the Contractors' daily production report.
  2. Conduct mishap investigations and complete required accident reports. Report mishaps and near misses.
  3. Use and maintain OSHA's Form 300 to log work-related injuries and illnesses occurring on the project site for Prime Contractors and subcontractors and make available to the Contracting Officer upon request. Post and maintain the Form 300A on the site Safety Bulletin Board.
  4. Maintain applicable safety reference material on the job site.
  5. Attend the pre-construction conference, pre-work meetings including preparatory meetings, and periodic in-progress meetings.
  6. Review the APP and AHAs for compliance with EM 385-1-1, and approve, sign, implement and enforce them.
  7. Establish a Safety and Occupational Health (SOH) Deficiency Tracking System that lists and monitors outstanding deficiencies until resolution.
  8. Ensure subcontractor compliance with safety and health requirements.
  9. Maintain a list of hazardous chemicals on site and their material Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  10. Maintain a weekly list of high hazard activities involving energy, equipment, excavation, entry into confined space, and elevation, and be prepared to discuss details during QC Meetings.
  11. Serve as the Government's sole point of contact for all matters relating to safety.
  12. Continually enforce and implement the safety requirements of the contract including the Accident Prevention Plan.
  13. Be on site at all times during construction activities.
Qualifications
  1. Education:
    A Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health, Environmental Science, Construction Management, or a related field is preferred.
  2. Experience:
    At least 10 years of experience in construction safety, with a focus on heavy civil projects.
  3. Certifications:
    1. Required:
  • OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety and Health
  • First Aid/CPR certification
  • CHST (Construction Health and Safety Technician) or CSP (Certified Safety Professional)
  • EM 385-1-1 Certification (preferred but not mandatory). Candidates without the EM 385-1-1 certification may complete the training after joining, with the company reimbursing the cost.
  • Knowledge:
    Comprehensive understanding of OSHA regulations, construction safety standards, and industry best practices.
  • Skills:
    • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
    • Ability to identify and mitigate potential safety hazards effectively.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills and a high level of attention to detail.
