Job summary

LaSalle Network is partnering with a well-established construction firm to hire a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to oversee daily safety and quality on assigned projects in Des Plaines, IL. The role focuses on ensuring compliance with OSHA/EM-385 and project standards, with close collaboration with the Project Manager and on-site team.

Qualifications

  • 5 to 10 years of experience in the construction industry with a general contractor in general building construction.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of construction materials, methods, scopes, and techniques.
  • Certification in OSHA 30-hour and EM 385 40-hour within the last 5 years.
  • OSHA HAZWOPER certification.
  • NAVFAC ECATTS certification.
  • CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Proficient with computer software used in the construction industry.
  • Strong communication skills and good judgment.
  • Ability to travel and relocate depending on project location.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain understanding of contracts, subcontracts, plans and specs to support the Project Manager in onsite procedures.
  • Create, update, and maintain the project submittal log and other QC reports.
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for conformance with project specifications.
  • Chair and document weekly QC and Safety meetings with the superintendent, providing minutes.
  • Provide daily QC and Safety reports reinforcing conformance with project standards.
  • Conduct prep, initial, and follow-up meetings to establish standards of care for definable features of work.
  • Verify materials received are conformant and properly stored for project use.
  • Coordinate and document testing and commissioning of building systems.
  • Perform quality control testing and inspection per contract requirements.
  • Develop and update QC & APP plans to align with EM-385, OSHA, or other required safety standards.
  • Work with subcontractors and vendors to procure safety documents (AHAs, certifications, lift plans).
  • Collect and file safety meeting materials, including toolbox talks and equipment inspections.

Job description

LaSalle Network is partnering with a well-established construction firm to find a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) to manage the daily responsibilities of assigned projects, ensuring construction meets established minimum standards. This role includes direct oversight of documentation and physical inspection throughout the workflow process, working closely with in-house personnel and external partners to deliver a quality product.

This is a strong opportunity for an experienced construction safety professional to take ownership of site safety and quality oversight on federal and public agency projects, working closely with the Project Manager and broader project team.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the contract, subcontracts, plans and specifications to support the Project Manager in developing onsite procedures
  • Create, update, and maintain the project submittal log and other project-specific quality control reports
  • Review shop drawings and submittals for conformance with project specifications
  • Chair and document weekly QC and Safety meetings with the superintendent, providing written minutes per contract requirements
  • Provide daily QC and Safety reports reinforcing conformance with project standards and addressing non-conformances in a timely manner
  • Conduct preparatory, initial, and follow-up meetings to establish standards of care for each definable feature of work

  • Coordinate and document testing and commissioning of building systems
  • Perform quality control testing and inspection per contract requirements and best practices
