Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Site Reliability Engineer for their Strategic Defense team. This role focuses on building and operating resilient infrastructure for military command and control systems, including bare-metal provisioning, Kubernetes cluster management, and support for air-gapped, disconnected environments.
What You'll Do
- Provision bare-metal servers at scale using PXE boot, kickstart, BMC/iDRAC, firmware updates, and STIG hardening before integrating into Kubernetes clusters
- Operate self-managed Kubernetes clusters (RKE2, k3s, Talos) on-premises and at the edge, managing networking, storage, upgrades, and capacity
- Design and implement software delivery mechanisms for disconnected environments with limited bandwidth and short update windows
- Debug failures across the Linux kernel, network, and Kubernetes layers; lead root cause analysis and postmortem reviews
- Write Python and Bash automation tools, manage infrastructure as code, and travel to customer sites for system installation and support
What You Need
- Currently possess and maintain an active U.S. Top Secret security clearance
- 3–8+ years of hands-on infrastructure, systems, or site reliability engineering experience
- Deep Linux knowledge: process states, system calls, memory, file systems, inodes, systemd, and SELinux
- Network fundamentals: TCP/UDP, DHCP, DNS, routing, VLANs, and firewalls; ability to trace requests end-to-end
- Kubernetes operational expertise below the managed layer: Services, kube-proxy, CNI, DNS, scheduling, storage; proficiency with kubectl
- Ability to write working Python and Bash scripts from scratch for log parsing, file handling, retries, and error handling
Nice to Have
- Experience building, deploying, or operating systems on air-gapped, classified, or security-hardened networks
- Experience designing distributed systems for edge or disconnected/intermittent/limited (DIL) conditions: mesh networks, store-and-forward, peer distribution, QoS
- Infrastructure as code and GitOps tools: Terraform, Ansible, ArgoCD, Flux; Nix experience
- Observability stacks: Prometheus, Grafana, Loki, OpenTelemetry
- Platform and supply-chain security: image signing, PKI, certificate authorities, disk encryption (LUKS), FIPS
- Ability to read, debug, and modify software in Go, Python, Rust, or C++
